We aren't super close but always exchange gifts

Amazon gift cards always make good gifts! You can also get her candy/chocolate to go with it.

I like Nordstrom gift cards. Their stuff is a little more high end, and getting a gift card there forces me to buy something I probably wouldn't necessarily buy for myself otherwise.

Maybe a subscription box? Fancy food items, socks, coffee of the month?
I'm lazy and default to amazon giftcards when I really don't know what to get someone.

@catlady: This is what I was going to suggest as well- I love getting stuff in the mail, and I think it's special to get something for a couple months in a row. I'm getting my mom a GlobeIn subscription for Christmas, which is all handmade artisanal stuff from around the world.
