I'm at a loss for a Christmas gift for my niece. She is 12 years old and lives in a very rural area. In years past, I've been getting her outfits from stores that other kids shop at, but now that she's in middle school, I know she wants to pick out her own clothes.

Maybe a subscription to a magazine about hair/beauty (which she is interested in), or a small gift card to go with the make-up set?

Buying for preteen girls is so hard, plus I just don't know what's in style for them right now.
