I really like the name Tess or Tessa, but our last name is a synonym for street that starts with "L". It's only one syllable. I feel like it wouldn't flow at all and reminds me of the word tessallation (weird, I know). Am I being silly or do the names not go well together?

My first thought is that Tessa flows but Tess doesn’t.

@chuckles: I get what you mean about tessellation, but I never would have come up with it if you hadn’t said it unless I’d just had to read A Wrinkle in Time in a lit class.

@JCCovi: @PinkElephant: @Kemma: Thanks, ladies! I agree that Tess is worse. I'm glad that Tessa doesn't sound weird to you. We'll see if I can get DH on board with it. We actually already have another name picked out, I just can't stop thinking about other choices for some reason.

I love the name Tessa. I think it sounds fine, but also remember that it's very rare that people are going to call her Tessa Lastname all in one breath.

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone! Now to get DH on board. He said that he likes our original choice of Hannah better. I would be fine with either, but maybe I'll ask to do what we did with DS - keep two choices and wait until she's born to decide.

Tessa is beautiful with your last name. FWIW my best friend's name is Tessa and per her (and my own experience--we've discussed this) Tess is almost always only a nickname, like how you'd assume anyone named Dan is probably a Daniel. I guess Tess of the D'urbervilles not withstanding
