We are looking for ideas for baby girl! Our boys are Pierce and Everett.

Clare is a family name and both it and Clara are in consideration, but they’re becoming so popular. It’s likely to be a middle name.

Others we like(ish):
Alana
Elliana
Ainsley
Naomi
Adalyn
Callie

We tend to try for names that aren’t too out there, but also not too popular. Last name starts with a C and is two syllables.

@Jess1483: I have a Clara and we have only met I think 3, ever. Plus a couple of Claire’s. It’s rare that i hear another kid with her name at the playground or whatever. Obviously I’m biased and think it’s the best name. I also really like Alana.

What about Eliza or hazel?

I love Claire as a middle name!

We have similar naming I think, with our style being a touch more run of the mill. We considered: Harriet (Hattie), Eliza, Eleanor, Nora, Margaret (Mae), Carlin, Laurel, Rowan

We considered Claire as a first name but it’s super common in our area. With that said, my son has a not very popular name and we know 2 kids in his grade with similar names. You just can’t really predict how common a name will end up - especially with the rise of old fashioned names and super younique names concurrently!
BUT, my daughter is the only one we know her age and we do actually know multiple Claires.

*didnt mention my daughter’s name for privacy

With Clare as a middle, I like Ava/Eva (long a sound), or Hannah. Hazel and Nora as others mentioned are also nice. Somehow with your boys’ names, I don’t feel like a “fussy” girl name with too many syllables sounds right. But that’s totally me! anything you choose will be perfect!

@Jess1483: I had a huge list of girl names my husband didn't love, and we didn't settle on our daughter's name until 4 weeks out from delivery! Some names I loved dearly that we didn't use:

Eliza (Liza)
Eleanor (Norah)
Ivy
Mara
Eloise
Elyse

I also love Lorelai (spelled like the character in Gilmore Girls, although the Lorelei spelling like the poem is also beautiful). Hadley (Haddie) sounds nice with Pierce and Everett, too! Congratulations on your daughter-to-be!

Yes, there are so many Claires on this earth. I love your name style--one thing I'd keep in mind if you're not already is the propensity for some of those to become nicknames, so, how would you feel about Ellie or Addie.

There is a little girl at our daycare named Ellery and I just love it. It sounds cute with Claire.

Thanks everyone! Lots of good suggestions.

I know I listed a name that starts with E. It’s one of my husband’s favorites (with Alana). But my children’s first initials are prominently displayed in a public location with no further information, and I’m really afraid of having “PEE” displayed, so I’d have to overwhelmingly love an E name to be able to use it. I know this makes little sense, but it’s a major part of my life/work, and I’m not sure how to get around it

@LBee: Laurel is on my list, but it’s the name of a nearby town, so it may be a no go. I like some of the others!

@Pollywog: I like Clare with Ayla (the family name comes from other names, so I’ll use the Clare spelling). I also love Linley, but DH isn’t a fan.

@PinkElephant: Eva Clare is my cousin’s name, so it’s unfortunately off the list. But I love it too!

@ChiCalGoBee: I love Mara but not its meaning (which is important to DH.) I am considering Amara.

@LCTBQE: yes. We purposefully named our boys without obvious nicknames and I think we’d prefer the same with DD. I don’t mind some nick names, but I don’t like Ellie. Elliana isn’t really on my list so much as DH’s.

@josina: Ainsley is probably my front-runner. DH says it’s growing on him but dislikes the West Wing reference (it’s one of my favorite shows or he’d probably never know). I can’t imagine that’s one that would follow her around though.

@psw27: that’s beautiful. I like it other than the E thing I just added I love Everly but wouldn’t use it with my Everett. I wonder if Ellery is different enough...

I love Clara! My girls are Rosalie (Posie) and Eleanor (Elsie). Other names that I love that I think would work well with Clare/Clara as a nickname are selah, Norah , ruby, Sadie, Harriet, Florence, lilah, Abigail...

My daughter is Claire... where I'm from, it's not overly popular (yet). But I do really like the name Abigail Clare! On your list, I really like Alana Clare or Naomi Clare. Congrats!

@Jess1483: So that's the thing about Mara. It was my husband's #1 choice, but I, too, couldn't get past the meaning. I'm Jewish so it's particularly poignant as maror (bitter herbs) are part of the Passover Seder. I decided if we were going to use it I'd need her middle name to be Joy to sort of counteract the bitter, and life is truly bittersweet. However, we went in a different direction entirely. I still like the sound of the name and how unique it is!
