My LO (3 years old) woke up with a fever this morning. It was 102 this morning, which wasn't alarming of course. But he was super miserable, so we gave him some Tylenol. The Tylenol brought the fever down a bit, to about 100.5, but he's still been really lethargic and glassy-eyed. There's no reason to still be concerned, right? He's eaten a tiny bit and has been drinking water. He's responsive when we talk to him, but for the most part has just been staring off into space when he's awake. It just seems strange that his fever isn't that high, but he's hardly moving around and talking. He's just laid on the couch all day, sleeping on and off. What do you mamas think?

I would call your pediatrician's nurse/on-call line and see what they say. Being lethargic all day like that would have me worried. Hope he feels better soon!

Our doctor always says to be worried by symptoms, not the fever. Lethargic like that is on the worry list. I'd call.

@lawbee11: and @ladybee: Thanks, ladies. I did call and talk to the on-call ped. She said that since he's been drinking some water and getting up to pee to not worry that he's been so sleepy and lethargic. I'm so sad for him that we'll probably have to miss trick or treating tomorrow

Even though his fever is not that high maybe he feels really yucky. I would probably take him to be seen tomorrow to be on the safe side and keep pushing fluids.

@Chuckles: my sister used to get sick a lot as a kid (a LOT) and frequently missed holidays. One time my parents ended up doing a kind of Easter-like "find the candy" game while she was all dressed up after she got better. Another thing we did was drive to various family members houses to go Trick or Treating (with candy provided to them by my family). And one year we did Trick to Treating inside our own house where each room had a Halloween game (like simple stuff like bob for apples, feel the gross "brains", etc.).
She was sick a lot as a kid so we ended up with a lot of holiday make-ups. Its definitely hard when they're older and know they're missing out on a day they've looked forward to for weeks.

What a weird virus. He slept through the night and woke up back to his old self (mostly). No fever today.
@newlypregnantlady: That's a great idea! I think he's up for hitting just a couple of houses, but if he starts to get tired this afternoon, I'll totally see if we can trick or treat at some friends and neighbors' houses later in the week. -
@Chuckles: my kids just had a weird 24 hour cold/virus/who knows what thing last week where their temps were slightly elevated. Totally thought they had ear infections and I took them in and lungs and ears were clear. Ugh weird sick kid stuff! Glad he's better.
