Ugh!
I'm mostly not thrilled about it. I have tons of pictures for my desk and lunch plans with my friends... But I'm going to miss LO. We nurse on demand and lately he's been attached 24/7. It's going to be so weird to not have him with me all the time.
I'm really afraid people are going to ask about him and that I'm going to cry. I know going to work is the best decision for our family, but I'm going to miss him!!!

I just went back last week, and it sucks, but easier than you probably think. I was sure if cry, but made it through! It's good that you have plans for lunch, hopefully you'll be nice and busy so you won't have too much time to be sad. I will say that coming home that first night and seeing LO is the best feeling 
you'll do great!

Good luck with your return! I went back two weeks ago and everyone on here was right, it's not as bad as you imagine.

Good luck! Just take it little by little and hopefully the day will go by fast. It helps to stay busy.

@septemberlove: it's so weird and hard! I've been back for three weeks and it does get easier every day. I was afraid looking at photos or talking about him would make me sad, but it actually made me feel happy! Like, "I love him so much and I get to go see him in a few hours!"

I've gone through half a box of Kleenex and cried in front of the VP. There are two other new moms in my office of 20 so I'm in good company. He's with my mom so that's reassuring. It's hard to be away but it feels nice to be getting back into work. I got a promotion while I was on mat leave and I'm getting excited about some new projects I'm starting.
And luckily I only work 28 hours a week, so that's definitely nice.
I'm going to lunch with friends today and then I just have to get through the afternoon.

I made it!
Everyone was really understanding and supportive. My VP came over (he's a guy) and told me he still got choked up sometimes leaving his kids and they're 14 and 12. I thought that was really nice of him to say.
I spent some time talking to the other new moms and they said they both cried the whole first week. I never noticed, but I'm not usually in the office (I go to clients' offices a lot). It made me feel a lot better knowing that I wasn't being crazy.
It was wonderful to come home to LO. He definitely recognized me and wanted to nurse immediately, even though my mom said he'd just had a bottle about an hour before.
I hope tomorrow is easier.

@septemberlove: congrats on your promotion and hang in there! I look at my time away from dd (school/practicum) as sort of an opportunity for her to bond with daddy/grandma without me...and if the time comes, with daycare teachers. As log as her needs are met. Glad you only have to work 28 hrs nt 40+. Hugs!
