Anyone see anything really good lately, either rented or at the theater?
We just saw 42 & Olympus has Fallen this week & boy were both really REALLY good (I'd be apt to say they were both great even)!
Totally recommend both!
Anything else we should add to our must see list?

Planes. I highly recommend and I didn't even like Cars too much. I definitely want to see Butler. It looks so good. We have 42 dvd tonight. I've been dying to watch since before it was in the movies but finally got a chance. Going to make some popcorn now....

We watched For Love of the Game tonight on Netflix. Poor DH thought it was going to be about baseball, heh.

Mud. All around wonderful story & film. A must see! (And it's available on demand tv for direct TV subscribers!)
Fruitvale station was also incredible but SO SAD.

Saw The Wolverine a few weeks ago, really enjoyed it, if you're looking for the generic action movie type of thing!

Saw Olympus has fallen and thought it was ok. A decent mindless action thriller. But so much of it is so far fetched its insulting. Like I highly doubt it will take 15 minutes for a team to respond!
Best movie I've seen recently is still Silver Linings Playbook.
What is Planes?! I keep seeing it everywhere!

Finally watched 42 last night after much anticipation. I had it built up in my head, plus I had to watch it by myself so it was just a tad slow for my mood.
Planes is the latest Pixar/Disney movie. It looks like Cars but it's better. Anyway, there are a lot of global references so it's fun and fast moving. The opening sequence was a bit slow for me. LO liked it. I loved it....laugh out loud funny.

@808love: planes isn't Pixar. This year Pixar did monsters university. Planes is by the Disney toons development section. It was originally slated to be a direct to DVD release but they decided it should come out as 3d instead. It is a cute movie but doesn't not have the quality of a Pixar movie.

Cloud Atlas - was hard to follow but still good. I think I need to read the book.
Rust and Bone - foreign film, really enjoyed it, french romantic movie

@brownie: For some reason I thought Pixar was bought out by Disney and it's the same. OK. Thanks! Yes, the quality looks different now that you mention it. I liked the storyline!

@mrskc: Jack Reacher was a really fun watch! And I think The Impossible had to have been one of the most terrifying movies I've ever watched... absolutely amazing!

@mrskc: It was really good! It took a bit for me to get into it, but it kind of sucks you in as all the pieces fall into place. There were some stories I liked more than others (Luisa Rey and Sonmi-451), but overall I thought it was a great book!
It's one of those I'll revisit in a year or two, because there were surely things that I didn't get reading it for the first time.

We recently rented "Celeste & Jesse Forever" with Rashida Jones and Adam Samberg - we thought it was pretty good, and I liked the cast.
Watched "Starbuck" last night - french film about a man who donates to a sperm bank, only to have a mix-up result in him fathering 533 children. The movie is about him meeting them all, one by one. It was cute!
