Our pediatrician recommended this book, but I haven't found a ton of helpful reviews online. Has anyone read it? What are your thoughts?

I'm glad I'm not alone! Sorry, @Grizz: I hope someone has more insight about this book. It seems to have excellent reviews on amazon and decent feedback on good reads.

So glad I'm not the only one who thought this was going to be about Kim Kardashian!

Bahahahaha! I got all excited thinking people had read the book when I saw all the responses. If my pedi referred me to the Kardiashians for baby sleep advice, he'd definitely get the side-eye!

@deerylou: omg I did too! I thought she sure cashed in quickly on this baby!

I also thought the kardashians were up to something lol!

I've read it! LO was a terrible napper (but a great night sleeper). The book was magical for us. I read it when LO was around 4 months. Before the book she would hardly nap at all and never for more than 30 minutes. It was such a nightmare. After the book she was taking 3 naps a day for more than an hour (maybe an hour and a half, I don't remember specifics). We also moved up her bedtime and she started to sleep 12 hours at night. Let me know if you have questions.

Is she the sleep lady? I've never read her book, but I've heard good things about it, specifically her sleep lady shuffle (if I'm thinking of the right person).

@LittleFox: Yes, it's the sleep lady. I'm just wondering what kind of style this book is. I'm not comfortable with CIO ...

Count for another who seriously thought Kim Kardashian was writing children's books...
@grizz: I have the Weissbluth book, and he elaborates on CIO, extinction, and "nurse/rock to sleep" methods without being overly pushy toward CIO. We, admittedly, haven't been great about naps, but E goes down like a champ for bedtimes. Rarely he fusses for a minute, but mostly he talks to his mobile, then falls asleep. It mostly seems to be about figuring his natural rhythms.

@Bluebonnet: Awesome! Thank you! Can you describe any of her techniques? DS is a terrible terrible sleeper... We are to the point that I don't even remember kissing him and DH goodbye this morning, or driving to work. No recollection. THAT tired.

@grizz: I haven't read the book in a while, so this isn't a comprehensive review.
It sounds like you are having lots of issues, I'd highly recommend the book. It's a quick read (just read the intro to understand the philosophy and then read the chapter applicable to your child's age). It also won't bore you to sleep (like Weisenbluths book).
The book teaches you how to help your LO learn the skills to fall asleep on their own (versus rocking or nursing to sleep). It also teaches you to recognize LO's sleep cues. The theory is that babies have a sleep window. You need to put them down when they first show signs of being tired, NOT when they are overtired and fighting sleep. Once we mastered this part, everything else fell into place.
One of her methods is the "sleep lady shuffle". It's not CIO, it's a much more gentle method.
The other REALLY helpful part is she outlines when your LO should be napping based on when they woke up last. Every other book I read either didn't give guidelines on when LO should nap OR they said that LO should nap at xyz time (which in hindsight seemed to be when LO was overtired).
I can't tell you how much better life was after we "sleep trained". LO was so much happier (because she was sleeping better and sleeping longer). And we weren't stressed out or exhausted.
For us we didn't have to do the sleep lady shuffle, once we adjusted LOs nap schedule and bedtime based on her sleep cues/sleep window,we put her in bed "drowsy, but awake" and she feel asleep on her own.

@grizz: P.S. sorry for the novel
For the record I'm up in the middle of the night because of my insomnia. LO has been asleep for hours.

LOL at the Kanye/Kim comments- I totally thought the same thing and thought it was a new song coming out!!
@Bluebonnet: interesting review- I might have to see if I can get it now!

Another vote for Weissbluth over here. I've read books by everyone under the sun (in English and German) and ultimately, we did a combination of Ferber and Weissbluth.

@banana: That's what I thought! I thought she got married and then they did some kind of collaborative lullaby thing. ACK! Step AWAY from the US Weekly....

This is awesome. I haven't read the book but I thought the same thing as everyone else who posted first.

@Bluebonnet: No, don't be sorry - that was super helpful information! I've been really anxious about all this because I both want to use a gentle method AND I want to get some sleep. It sounds like this book is a good choice for us! Thank you!

Haha - I thought Kim K had recorded a new song or something... hahaha

@deerylou: Totally what I thought too!
I haven't read it though.
