we've been spending the whole weekend together, watching a good amount of movies on tv. but last night, we decided we would play a couple games.

we played a few rounds of a taboo-like game using an iphone. i think it was called "catch phrase" or something like that.

then we switched to a few games of "celebrity."

prep: the eight of us split into 2 teams, boys vs girls. each person writes down a name of a famous person on a piece of paper, folds it, and drops it into a bowl. (since we're all family, we included some distinctive family members too instead of famous people.) so there were 32 names in the bowl.

round 1 (taboo-like): the first team has 40 seconds to go through as many names as possible. one person describes the person on the paper for the rest of her team to guess. for example, lady gaga would be "female singer who dresses really weird." and we tally up the correct guesses, with up to 3 skips if we don't know the person. the skipped papers go back into the bowl. then it's the next team's turn. we switch back and forth until all the papers are guessed.

round 2 (one word): all the papers go back into the bowl. this time, instead of a description, we can only say one word. so it's important to pay attention during round 1 and remember all the names. for example, lady gaga might be "weird" or "singer." switch back and forth between teams until all papers are guessed.

round 3 (charades): put all the papers back into the bowl. this round, we have to act out the person on the paper. so for lady gaga, we might pantomime singing into a microphone and dancing funny.

do you have other fun non-board games you play in large groups with family or friends?
