Baby A has a cold at the moment and her left eye has had some green gunk in it today, usually when she wakes up from her nap. It reminds me of a time when I left a contact lense in over night and how my eye looked the next day.... It has been watery all day and a little red, but not much.... do you think it's part of the cold? Should I be worried? She has a doctor's appointment on Friday anyway so would I be irresponsible leaving it until then....

How old is she? My first guess is that it is from a blocked duct--both my kids suffered from them, but they both cleared up on their own. But if you're worried, definitely go to the pediatrician!

I think it very well could be from her cold, I would definitely ask at the doctor when you go though, just to be safe.

Is it crusty? My baby had crusties from blocked ducts from around 4-8 weeks.

At 1 week, my boys started getting this gooey gunk in their eyes. We took them to the pediatrician and she said it was a common eye infection. Gave us eye ointment to treat it then switched them to eye drops bc the ointment wasn't helping a ton.

You can always try squirting some breast milk in the eye to see if that helps?

LO also had some gunk in both her eyes last week. Kind of yellowish. We called the advice nurse who said it was an eye infection that commonly comes with colds. She prescribed eye drops, which LO hates, but it cleared up!

DD had this all the time! It's mucus as a result from an eye cold. Wipe her eye gently with a warm washcloth to open the ducts and if you can get a Perscription for antibiotic ointment it helps alot, my sister is an optometrist so she was able to diagnose and call in a Perscription for DD right away. If you can't get a perscription the warm wash cloth will do the trick it will just take longer.

Last time DD had green stuff it was pink eye! Wash your hands a lot just in case!! I hope it's just a clogged duct

@travelgirl1: it's a pretty common infection - conjunctivitis. DD woke up with crusty green eyes one morning that continued to be pink and very watery & mucus producing. I think it would be unlikely in an 11 week old but you may want to check with ped

DS had that in October and it was due to an ear infection. He didn't have a cold and he didn't have a fever. The only symptom was green goopy eyes.

LO had this a few weeks ago. It was sticky and she could barely open the one eye. I just kept wiping it off and it went away in a few days.

It could just be mucus, since sinuses are all connected...I didn't know that was possible until I got a really bad cold last month. I hope it clears up soon!
