A few people have mentioned this as a fond memory, and I've been surprised at how often I've seen it come up online!
Growing up, did your dad ever do your hair? Did he do a good job?

He didn't "do" it, but I do have fond memories of him brushing it or combing out the tangles after a bath!
We lived in a different country from our family, both parents worked full time, and both went on business trips! With two daughters, everyone had to brush some hair!

Never. But I have really find memories of doing his hair he would let us put bows and headbands and little pony tails

Yep. And I remember complaining about bumps in my side ponytail. Gotta love the 80s.

Yes, he worked nights so he took care of us during the day. I have one preschool picture that it's very clear he did my hair...full comb over...haha.

Only one time that I can remember - my mom was out of town and it happened to be on school picture day. It was obvious my dad did my hair in the photo and it makes me smile now!

Always!!!! My dad was so much better than my mom To this day he lovingly tells me to keep my hair long and natural. I think he died a little each time I died my blonde hair black/brown/red in high school.

not that I remember . . . it was pretty complicated to put my sweet 80s Farrah hair together.

When my mom was out of town be did my hair. He was terrible at it. He used way too much product. The ladies at school would always comment they could tell when my mom was away and they would often try to fix it. Nonetheless I am happy he tried and took an interest in my appearance.

Aaw, yes he did - and he was awful at it!! My mum had an early morning cleaning job when I was 7-10 ish and my dad used to get me up in the mornings. I frequently went to school with knotty hair because I moaned and squealed that he was hurting me and, unlike my mum who told me not to be so silly and kept going, he would give up!

Nope, but my dad never, ever parented us. I would have been totally weirded out if he ever did my hair. I don't think he once helped us get ready for anything (school, etc).
DH, on the other hand, is a super hands-on, loving, equal partner so he'll probably do our LO's hair quite a bit! Although he tried to put it in pigtails recently and it looked pretty cray-cray...

No, but mainly because my mom stayed at home and had the time to do it whereas my father worked and would leave before we even woke up for the day!

Always - he was really good too! He did whatever I requested. Usually two French braids, or two high messy bun type things he called dog ears lol

I don't think he ever did, at least I can't remember it. I don't think him not doing my hair was a deliberate thing, more that he worked nightshifts and would be asleep when i got up in the mornings.

Yep good and bad. He would brush out the tangles when I didn't and would tell me he was gonna cut it all off…lol. And he would braid it when my mom was working, he had 5 younger sisters so it was no big deal to him.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Nope! Only because he had a thing about looking your best for school and he knew he just couldn't make it look good. My older sister did mine until I was old enough when we weren't at my moms.
My dad sure would have if he could though!

I don't recall... But maybe since my dad always dropped us off at school in the morning.

Every day! I know he did it for at least kindergarten. I wore a low ponytail with a part down the middle.

@luckypenny: adorable! he sounds sweet
@grizz: wow, i'm impressed!
he did, nothing fancy though, he could do a regular braid, ponytail or pigtails, half up/half down. he had long hair before, so he knew to be gentle. once though, my mom got my hair permed and the next day was picture day, i told him he wasn't supposed to brush it, just comb with fingers, he didn't listen and insisted i wasn't leaving the house without brushing it & he went crazy brushing it with a regular hairbrush.... my head turned into a giant poof ball & i went in for my pictures a mess. he felt badly after, it was REALLY bad. he was good at make up though! before all my recitals, he was the one that got me ready. he was a theater major & my mom never wore makeup, so he was better at it. i think that made up for the crazy hair picture day

No never! I would love to have dh learn to do cool braids on me and dd but I think he is scared to touch my hair.

Occasionally; especially on Sunday mornings when my brother was a baby and we were going to church. He did a good job. He also painted my nails for me a few times, even as a teen. He's a good dad lol

My mom always braided my hair since she liked it long. My dad wouldn't do anything to my hair, only on the rare occasion would he get frustrated with it he would give and give me a bowl haircut like he did my two brothers.

I think maybe once. This is an oddly fond memory as it was one of the VERY few times where my extremely intelligent, perfectionist, jack-of-all-trades, abusive, more-than-likely-a-sociopath father was unsure and out of his element and actually admitted it.
honeydew / 7504 posts
I don't have specific memories of it, but I'm sure he had to at some points. My mom traveled a lot for work.
persimmon / 1385 posts
Yep! He was much better at braiding. My mom would always get nervous and I would get annoyed.
He also always painted my fingers and toes complete with dice or flower designs using a toothpick. He is/was very patient

Most of the time I wore cornrows so my mum did that, but in our house, my Dad was the King of the Afro-puffs. He could pick an Afro to perfection like nobody's business
papaya / 10343 posts
lolz no. My dad was generally pretty hands-on parent wise and he could cook and do laundry and even mend clothes. But no no no on hair. I remember once he tried to put my hair in a ponytail and it was like it was being pulled at by a pack of hyenas.
