I don't remember DD1 making so much noise... DD2 grunts and squirms a lot in her sleep... But I dint usually hear a fart as a result. Oh and hiccups a lot even with burping. Are some babies just like that or is gassy? If so what can I do?

DS was like this and gripe water and gas drops seemed to help a little. He was eventually diagnosed with reflux and has been on Zantac ever since

@peaches1038: did he spit up? Or reflux doesn't always mean spitting up?
nectarine / 2047 posts
@snowjewelz: he did spit up but not a lot. I should've clarified and said he had silent reflux. So it would come up but he would swallow it. Does your lo spit up?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@peaches1038: ohh didn't even know that's a thing! She doesn't spit up... According to kellymom she might just need time for GI tracts to nature? I just don't want to miss something here...

This sounds exactly like DS. He's a little over three months now, but for the first two months or so he was SO LOUD when he slept - to the point I slept with earplugs in and could still hear him. I even recorded his grunts to play for his doctor because he sounded so uncomfortable. The doctor said it was normal, and like you said, his digestive system needed to mature/he needed to get used to digesting food. He is much quieter now.

My son was SUCH a grunted. All night! Probably from like 4 weeks til 3 months or so. No gas, never had funny issues or anything He was fine and STTN around 5 months.
Sometines babies are just loud!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Kitkat: it never woke him up? During the day she sleeps through her own grunting but I did read it's worse at night so maybe that's why she is more upset...
@pachamama: hahaha that is too funny! That's def best case scenario!

@snowjewelz: we have the same issue going on. Way worse at night. Doing gripe water and gas drops. I have actually thought that some of her farts/toots were DH's. They are that loud. She also spits up some.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Smurfette: ugh no fun! Was DD1 that way? This is new to me haha. Can they have gripe water this early? I didn't even think about that!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@snowjewelz: LO1 had reflux had two weeks but we don't remember any gas issues. But we were covered in spit up so we might have forgotten about it. The gripe water says 1Month + so we just do half the dose but I bought the overnight kind by accident. I know we used it with LO1 too (for hiccups cause she had them so often).
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Smurfette: Yes DD2 is having hiccups all the time too! I def will have to get gripe water to have on hand... Does reflux have to have spit up? She really doesn't spit up (maybe twice for the last almost 4 weeks) and wasn't much. Just trying to see if I can help her be more comfortable at night, or just need to wait for it to pass!

@snowjewelz: This was AJ! He would squirm and grunt as if uncomfortable but never really cry!
It lasted until 8 weeks about?!
It was paired with his stool being green and bloody once or twice!
I truly think it was his GI track as a baby!
But.....G was a very loud sleeper as a baby

We had the same thing as @peaches1038. LO2 was diagnosed with silent reflux at 2 weeks old and we started him on zantac at that point. It didn't perform miracles but he did seem better. Actually his first zantac prescription ran out last week (he's 6 weeks now) and we let him go a couple days without it to see if maybe he had outgrown it and the grunting got awful again and he started spitting up a lot and had hiccups like all day long. So we just started him back on the zantac yesterday and he already seems a bit better again.

@FaithFertility: I remember you posting about the blood? So it just kinda went away and that was it? K2 def has green stools now, but not consistent, sometime yellow sometimes green. As I'm typing she's grunting away lol
@catlady: how did he get diagnosed? Just with the symptoms?
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Yep, completely away and he seems to just be a ok!!!!!!
I asked Dr. And he siad yep seemed like he was just figuring things out
grapefruit / 4988 posts
@snowjewelz: Yes, we just told our pediatrician about how he kept waking himself up by grunting and how it seemed like he was in pain. I also forgot one more symptom, he would cough and choke while nursing and that was really disconcerting to me. The pediatrician said it sounded like silent reflux and prescribed zantac at that point.
nectarine / 2047 posts
@snowjewelz: DS also choked and coughed while nursing. I forgot about that symptom since it was so long ago but it definitely was worrisome. He is 14 months now and we've just begun to wean off the Zantac.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@peaches1038: @catlady: like cough and choke every feeding? Or just enough times to be concerned? Sry for all the questions!
@FaithFertility: I guess she is too!
apricot / 325 posts
@snowjewelz: no, I thought it was waking him up, but eventually realized he was doing it in his sleep. He grew out of it and now sleeps (quietly) for 7-8 hour stretches.
grapefruit / 4988 posts
@snowjewelz: No, not every feeding, but often enough that I got worried. Maybe like every 2-3 feedings. Yesterday I think he did it 3 times over the course of the day (before we started his Zantac again).

My kiddo was a super loud sleeper as a newborn. Lots of grunting and squirming and snuffling. She did not have reflux, and also never woke herself up by being loud--although we woke up frequently. She grew out of it around 12 weeks.
nectarine / 2047 posts
@snowjewelz: for us, it was most feedings. And no worries about the questions! I hope you get it figured out!
persimmon / 1281 posts
Yes and he was diagnosed with silent reflux. He grunted, had hiccups ALL the time, didn't sleep well, constantly tried to shove his entire hand in his mouth (apparently they're trying to get to the pain in their throat) and fussed (but not much) during feedings.

My DS grunted a lot in his sleep, only at night, until around 12 weeks. He's only 15 weeks now but no reflux issues or anything like that. Ped said grunting was normal.
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: R is super-grunty too, way more than the girls, and for the first couple of weeks, it definitely seemed to bother him to pass gas and/or poop. Now he doesn't get quite as angry about it, but still grunts a ton. He also has about 50/50 green/yellow poop -- and I don't remember either girl having any green ones. AND he is definitely a happy spitter, whereas both girls were minimal spitters.
But he is gaining weight well, having plenty of wet/dirty diapers, isn't otherwise fussy, doesn't arch/cry/refuse to feed, and doesn't typically spit-up a *ton*. And I only feed one side at a time (so the green poop is not a foremilk/hindmilk thing). So we're just letting it ride!
I think it's just normal baby reflux (immature GI), nothing that needs to be treated!

@KayKay: That was/is AJ too!!! He slits up all the time! G NEVER did!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: Ok they sound exactly the same! Except K2 doesn't even spit up much. So I will just wait! She is only about to be 4 weeks so we got a while!
@FaithFertility: Seriously, so much new stuff that I never dealt with before! K2's sprouted some baby pimples too, which K1 never did!
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: @faithfertility: of course after i typed that message, he immediately spit up ALL over me. most of it went down my nursing tank...and somehow avoided his clothes completely! but even when it's big blurps, it's like once a day, not every feeding!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: hahaha yep, AJ has it too and dry dry skin, G never did
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: haha so strategic! At least only one out of two needs to change
@FaithFertility: haha what's with these siblings... DH was freaking out cuz he didn't know baby pimple/acne is a "thing"
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Can't make us look like we know what we are doing.......lol
He also spits up and G never did! So we have to hold him up for 10 mins it seems or else SPLAT!

As I'm reading this thread, I'm listening to my 4 week old cry out and squirm, but I don't think she's awake. She does a little cry out/grunt, and then stops, and then in a few minutes does it again. It only just started yesterday.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Pumpkin Pie: I'm just watching her closely to see if it will go away or gets worse...
