I watched him pull out of a parking lot and onto a busy road during rush hour. He had a baby on his lap.
What do you do in a situation like that? Call the cops? Follow him? I assume he knew what he was doing was wrong, so it wasn't like I was going to enlighten him on the situation.

That's crazy! I want to say that I'd call the cops but I feel like the chances of them finding this guy would be pretty small. That poor baby!!

I've never seen a child on a lap, but I've seen lots of toddlers/very small children sitting in the front seat or sitting in a car without a seatbelt and it drives me nuts!
God forbid they get into an accident. It's so simple to put on a seatbelt. Ugh.

that's awful! sadly i frequently see people driving with their infants & toddlers not in carseats. i don't imagine they are unaware that it's required for the safety of their children, i think they just don't care. i know sometimes LOs get cranky in carseats, but i just don't know how you could ever forgive yourself if something happened. i don't call the police, i don't think they'd send someone out for it, but i think if they were going far they'd drive by an officer who'd see (but i live in a very populated area and you don't go far without seeing a police car)

that is awful. I've never seen that but I have seen kids standing up in the back seat while the vehicle is in motion. Pisses me off.
I honestly don't know what I'd do. I like to say that I would try and take a pic and get the license plate and then call the police. However, I'm not sure if that would actually happen if I were in the situation.

I would call the cops. Better to be safe than sorry. This guy should not be allowed to parent or drive.

thats crazy! i would prob be the psycho to follow him and call the cops, i would rather be safe than sorry. and if he is doing something as stupid as this, who knows what else he does as a parent

@highwire: Last summer in the OBX we saw a car drive off the Ferry with a young baby (6-8 mo maybe?) in the drivers lap "helping" to drive. Made me so mad! And none of the ferry officials stopped or said anything to them...they didn't stop either to put the baby in a car seat, just got off and onto the main road.
