When I went to get my hair colored over the weekend, a mom was there with her husband and 11 week old.
My appt was at 10:30am and I'm guessing she was there around 9am.
When I left at almost 3 (I had to wait an hour for my guy to finish her hair -.-) she was getting her hair cut.
My DH would NEVER chill for 6+ hours with our baby while I was getting my hair done.

@chopsuey: Its so funny you ask this! My DH - very surprisingly - has actually gone with me to get my hair done. BUT I get mine done in a different county. Its a bit of a drive to a place that he and I otherwise never go visit. So he has, on a handful of occassions, gone with me. But he doesn't sit in the salon. To be honest, I don't know what he does for the 3+ hours I am getting my hair done. But when I'm done, he and I hang out in town for the rest of the day. He has sometimes hung out in the hair salon for a bit because he has, over time, gotten to know my hair dye/ cut people. He always says, "I feel like a tourist." Its funny and totally endearing when he wants to go with me. But if I was just at a supercuts around the corner and DH wanted to come, no f'n way.
ETA: I'm not a mom, so I don't know... but maybe the mom getting her hair dyed needed to breast feed her baby at the exact time she was getting her hair dyed. That's why the dad was there with the baby. To that I say - get your kid on a better schedule! 
(says the girl with no baby who thinks she will be supermom when she does have a baby.)

He came with me once, I don't remember why actually haha, but he didn't stay IN the salon. My hair stylist was in Georgetown in DC, where there's a ton of stuff to do, so he walked around the shops. Plus my appointment was maybe an hour and a half. I wonder why that guy was there? You think he was afraid to be alone with the baby? Weird...

@MrsSCB: Some dads, in my experience, are afraid to be alone with the baby. Also, some moms are afraid to leave their husbands alone with the baby! And then you end up with your DH at your hair apppointment. Major fail.

Sidenote --- I worked with a couple, and he went with her at the beginning of the appt to tell the stylist how he wanted her hair done................!

@chopsuey: that's insane. And I probably wouldn't expose my baby to the hair dye smells and chemicals, either.

@MrsSCB: @MrsMcD: They had a 3.5 year old and the dad didn't want to watch both kids on his own. Lol.
They left their toddler with the grandparents.
The mom nursed her baby 3x while I was there.

Haha, yes. BUT his sister is our hairstylist so its a bit different. And almost always she's doing my hair, plus his or DS1's hair.

@chopsuey: This kind of a story freaks me out. Because I want a baby and I want to breast feed. But if the mom is the sort that she wants to go out and get her hair dyed, can't she pump a bit into a bottle to hold the baby over until she gets home? I agree with @Anagram: about not wanting to expose babies to fumes. (Although, I never smell fumes.)

He'd probably bring her in and out, if I needed to breastfeed. I can't imagine him sitting there for six hours. How boring.

@MrsMcD: Man, hair appts are so stressful for me because my guy takes SO LONG. (I would find a new stylist, but I can't because 1. we're friends 2. I love him 3. I would feel guilty) My DS went on bottle strike at 2 months old so whenever I wanna go out to get something done I have to time it perfectly.
The last time I got my hair colored and cut I was gone for 6 hours. My 2 month old starved while I was gone. He wouldn't take the bottle!
This time around I put DS down for a nap and left, came home 5 hours later. Thankfully he eats solids well, and he went down for his PM nap fine even though I didn't nurse him beforehand.

Oh man, I wouldn't expect him to sit there while I got my hair done. It was bad enough watching him sit for 4hrs while I had my glucose tolerance test the other day!
