If your baby has thick curly afro type hair, what products do you use? I want to use pure shea butter on my 6 month old but I think what I ordered on amazon isnt really 100% shea butter.
I'm hesitant to put any strong chemicals in her hair. I'm thinking of maybe using Extra virgin olive oil?

I get the organic coconut oil from trader joes or in bulk online. I use it to cook too. It's a little too greasy for my caucasian hair (I tried it and it left my hair pretty oily) but it would be great for thick/textured hair. It's good for healing scars, as lotion, for cooking... there are a few books out there on all the uses for coconut oil
Oh! and I had asked my ped about feeding coconut to DS and she said it was fine

I actually just bought a big tub of coconut oil for both my hair and LOs hair on Amazon recently. A little goes a long way and it's a light oil...safe for babies.

Extra virgin olive oil does work, too, but I prefer the coconut in terms of texture and smell.

I second coconut oil for everything (though we don't need it for our hair) we use it as a moisturizer, a carrier oil for essential oils, cooking etc. It's magic stuff.

I use coconut oil. It works great and gives the right amount of moisturizing for us (mixed hair). When we use shampoo, we use Kinky Curly Organic light shampoo, followed by a generous amount of coconut oil.

@anonysquire: @Mrsbells: I think she means the cholesterol for hair, like Queen Helene's. But that is more for deep conditioning and not for babies.

@Mrsbells: I use an adult version because it was all I could get in Salt Lake City at the time that I needed it, but my instinct would have been to go with the kiddie version. As it stands, the one we're using is really light and I use it rarely, so we'll stick with it
Our neighbors are super happy with mixed chicks. I tried it but felt it was too drying for M's hair (and super spendy)!
If you have other suggestions, I'm all ears
Oh and psa, no one should be using placenta products on their babies because it hyper-estrogenizes them.

Question for anyone
Do you all just use regular baby shampoo and then use the products described here as needed?!
Im in desperate need of help with LO's hair who is also 6 months and has a TON of it. Both DH and I have straight hair so I am totally clueless.
Sometimes her hair looks so crazy and sometimes it is just adorable but I dont know why?! We basically just use regular johnson & johnson (or whatever we have for babies) and every now and then I spray a little detangler.
