For us, we are celebrating "Pie and Beer Day". We had friends over for swimming this morning and we're going to a party this evening. Right now the girls are sleeping.
But it is nice to have a random midweek day off from work!

@Mrs. Jacks: pie and beer day? I like that! How have I never heard of that? How fun! It is nice having today off

Is this a Utah-only holiday? I'll have to text my sister to wish her a happy Pioneer Day. Do you guys get off? I doubt she does as she works in finance...

@anonysquire: http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/article-337-14359-pie-beer-pairings.html
@kjpugs: State holiday. Most people get the day off.

@kjpugs: Next year @honeybee: and I have a date to make meat pies and drink beers in celebration. I used to kind of be "meh" on this holiday, but with this new spin on it, I'm super happy about it!

@Mrs. Jacks: so jealous. I love Utah SO much. My sister moved there about two years ago with her then fiance (now husband) and I fell IN LOVE when I visited. This only sweetens the appeal, haha!

@autumnlove: thanks!
@kjpugs: I'm surprised to hear a ton of people say they love Utah. I mean I love Utah, but sometimes it gets a bad wrap, but everyone who has visited us has fallen in love too!

@anonysquire: I agree, I think the jokes/comments my sister gets are similar to those I got when I moved to Indiana, but there is a LOT more going on in Utah than there was in Indy. Nature-wise, and also coolness-wise. We had such a blast on vacation there, I can't wait to go again.

@Mrs. Jacks: I totally will! DH was super jealous when I told him how great it was and wanted to move there immediately (he always does that, he has total wanderlust) so I'd love to take a trip out there with him and LO next year. I visited last November, we got one delightful day then a blizzard, but it was still great. I'd love to go in nicer weather and get to do more outside stuff!

@anonysquire: LOL it has such interesting culture, and so many "hip" unique stores/restaurants... maybe that's just the parts of SLC and Park City I was in? Just total love!
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@kjpugs: definitely salt lake and park city. I live in draper which is now just chain restaurants and shopping. But I don't mind that I do love when my crazy, food loving DH finds us local dives in salt lake. I need to get out more. Visit all the farmers markets, the outdoor concerts and more Bruges waffles!

@kjpugs: We've got lots of hip stuff. I always say this is an underground hipster city. Especially when we stop by Bruges Waffles and Frites or some other awesome eatery.

@anonysquire: Jinx on Bruges! I thought you lived in North Salt Lake?

I remember seeing event announcements when we were there earlier this month. I really like the "pie and beer day" idea

@Mrs. Jacks: @anonysquire: I am (not so quietly) pressuring my sister to get knocked up ASAP (she previously said she was going to post-wedding but now is considering grad school since her company would pay.) If so I am signing her up for this site (she would never use it... she never goes online) and just MAKING HER be friends with my fun Utah Hellobee friends! Such an exercise in futility. Why are there no cool mom peoples in Orlando!?!?!?! (Oh, right, because ITS ORLANDO.)

Maybe I should just start a pie and beer day in Florida. Except it would probably become plaintains and rum day or something. Pie and beer is so much tastier.

@Mrs. Jacks: I cannot wait for Pie and Beer Day 2014! Although, I have to say that my very first Pie and Beer Day has been pretty great so far.
Fun fact, the Pioneer Day Parade in downton Salt Lake City is the fourth largest parade in the US!

@Mrs. Jacks: hahahah I have such a steamy love affair with Bruges. Great now I'm craving it! I used to live in sugarhouse but moved back to draper about 1.5 years ago
@kjpugs: You can join the cool Utah people's club just because you said you love Utah! Ican honestly say I've never had a plantain!

@Honeybee: wow! 2 years ago my parents built a float with our church. It was so much work, I honestly never knew how much work and pounds of glitter went into those things!
Wait do you live in Utah too? I can't keep up!
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@kjpugs: hahaha, don't worry the hospital I work at doesn't give it off either.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@Honeybee: Sounds like a limb or a kidney the way you put it
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@anonysquire: So your family lives in North Salt Lake? I could have sworn we had talked about you going to the N. Salt Lake fireworks and it being home... or something like that?

I'll have to let DH know about this pie and beer day. After visiting he was under the impression they were only allowed to sell light beer or some diluted alcohol version of beer in Utah.

@Mrs. Jacks: Lamb and mushroom pie? There's this place in Carson City that makes the best steak and mushroom pie. I wonder if I can find their recipe...
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@Honeybee: There's a place in maybe South Jordan or Murray or somewhere that makes amazing meat pies. Guarantee they won't be open on Pioneer day though. I'll look for recipes too!
Meat pies!

@Mrs. Jacks: hmm nope, never lived north. My parents and little brother live in draper (right behind me), my sister and her family live in sandy and my brother lives in Provo.

@Maysprout: not sure about the alcohol. I do know that all dhs family (big drinkers) were fans of some of the Utah beer. Polygamy porter was their fav.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@anonysquire: my mistake. I know we talked about N salt lake fireworks last year.
