so I have decided on an apple/harvest theme for my LO's 2nd birthday party in mid-september! I am so excited.
I would ideally like to DIY invitations, or order cheap. People just toss them, really, and we're on a tight budget with baby 2 coming this winter 
any cute inspiration ideas? the only things I can really find are halloween-y!

@locavore_mama: oooh I was thinking candy apples but I LOVE the apple sauce idea for the little ones! we're thinking cider, pies and @mrs. oatmeal is going to give me a killer cake recipe. I think we are going to have it at my mom's house again to save cost.. any ideas for cute invites? I'm at a loss!

Check Etsy for apple theme invitation PDF files. You print at home or at an Office Depot type place for cheap!

I love this idea! I grew up in New England and always loved going apple picking.
@locavore_mama: a pie bar is an awesome idea. Cider and donuts would work too!

@sorrycharlie: Most of these are going to be hard to DIY without a program that enables layers & works smoothly with images. I'm sure you can find lots of cute ones on Etsy though. I really like the first one @Seattlemom posted!
For Sadie's invite I had naturallycathy paint me something and added into an invitation I made on Photoshop. It came out really cute! MrsTaco did the same. If you want to get her to do something for you or of you find some images you really like, I'm happy to help you put something together. I'm no pro, but I've made quite a few invitations and it doesn't take too long! Wall or FB me if you want to chat.

@photojane: I am def considering that route. last year, I DIYd all the invites, and this is what they looked like - I had all the paper, just had to buy ribbon, and my friend laser cut the mickey heads for me!
I was thinking if I found something cute, I have sooo much brown kraft paper, other scrapbooking paper, ribbon and papery twine stuff. eta: raffia! LOL.

@sorrycharlie: those are so cute! I was thinking like traditional card invitation. You could totally do an apple like that! Or maybe a mason jar shape? I love this (obviously you'd need to change the colors and wording, and maybe make that little heart into an apple):
