@autumnlove: Would it work as a middle name?

I think it's tacky to ask people to name a baby after you!

You could always give your baby two middle names

@autumnlove: that's pretty bold move!! i personally am not a fan of naming after someone who is still alive (i say that, but my middle name is my mom's twin sisters name which is special to me, even though i'm not a fan of my middle name haha)

My sister's husband sort of kind of said he would name their baby after his mom if it was a girl. My sister was pretty upset, because 1, she doesn't like the name, but more importantly, 2, she doesn't really like her MIL at all! So even if they used it as a middle name, she really didn't want to! Luckily they had a boy so it was a non issue

I agree that it's pretty rude to ask someone to name their baby after you.

my brother always asked me but I think it was more joking lol.

I felt the same way about naming after parents. I worry one might feel unfavored.

You are so nice! I agree about not including it as a middle name, it won't be fair for your mom, unless you want to have 2 middle names.

I've had people say that jokingly, but no one has seriously asked that.

@autumnlove: OMG the second I saw that you were the author of this thread I thought "It can't be her MIL again can it?!"

This is why we told people that we already picked a name and that its a secret. That way they can't ask or give input, even if we werent sure yet.

@BabyBruins: Yeh, I think so. I fell in love with a name (a flower) and it was kind of meaningful to us as a couple. I knew I wanted to name our first girl that. But then I realized it was SIL's middle name! Even though she never uses the name, everyone would have assumed DD was her namesake and I didn't want to have to repeat our reasoning for picking it. It took me awhile to come to terms with not using the name. Now that DD is here, I am so glad we decided on a different name.

We have never been officially asked however my brother's children are both named after my SIL family. My mom mentioned that it would have been nice if they would have named one of them after our side of the family. So we plan on trying to name one of our children after my side of the family. Especially after my late grandmother or grandfather.
