A friends coworker heard our D's name and kept going on and on about how its the worst name she has ever heard. His name is unique but not weird or anything.....Rude! Honestly doesn't bother me and when it does I remind myself that she gave her daughter one of those awful 'unique' names that no one could spell or say correctly

That's so rude! No, you can tell when people don't like it or think it's a boy name, but I don't care we love it and I think she will too! And I'm glad I gave her a unique name (but is easy to say and spell!)

Ugh, so rude. Yes, we had a get-together at my DH's family's place, and one of his cousins went on and on about how weird LO's name is (Gwendolyn) and how she will get teased because we are using my maiden name as her middle name. I wanted to slap him.

Not really, but it seems like everyone says "oh I have an uncle L." It was a popular name back in the day but not so much today.

Sort of. My son is a Jr. and we call him Junior, at least for now. My baby was 4lb, 4oz at birth. Calling him by even a nickname of his full name felt like too much. And DH has always called him Junior.
My grandmother hates it and calls him a nickname of his first name. (If his name were Edward, she calls him Eddy). She tells me Junior is a stupid name. I think she's a bitch anyway, so it is what it is... She's the only one though.
Eventually we will call him some variation of his first name, whether it be Ed, Edward, Eddy, etc. but for right now, he's Junior.

Not to my face. Actually I was the one who didn't love the name for a long time, lol!! (Dh chose.) Our lo's name is unique but easy to say/spell. These days who really cares, there are so many names out there!!

@googly-eyes: exactly! Like I don't like her kids name but I'm not gonna tell her that BC she obviously loves it which she should! I understand not liking a name BC its not your taste but to go on and on about it repeaditly (whxih sadly she has done) is just rude and tasteless.

No...DS has a pretty traditional name that no one can really scoff at. S's name isn't rare, but unusual these days, so when people heard it they thought it was a nice idea when I was pregnant. I don't think anyone would dare say anything about her name to me at this point.

@septemberlove: DS's dad, who is not my husband, and doesn't see DS very often (or pays his cs reguarly) does this. DS's name is Daniel and he insists on calling him Danny, and my son HATES it. He's even told him that he doesn't like it, but my ex insists. It really grates on my nerves (and my son's!)

@Dandelion: my grandmother called me while LO was in NICU and asked if she could "make eddy some preemie hats". I allllllllmost told her to go f*#% herself. Maybe LO will prefer Junior, maybe he'll prefer Eddy, maybe Ed, I don't know but for now, I get to decide and she can kiss my butt.

Nope. At least not to our face. I think it helped since we didn't say her name till she was here and named.

No. I think it is incredibly rude and I feel bad for whomever is stupid enough to think they have any say in LO's name
That's the good part about having your own kids, you get to name them whatever you want!

@stargal: I love your son's name if I'm thinking of the right one (begins with a P?) and that's so incredibly rude of her to have said something. I don't particularly care for a name I just heard recently but I would never, ever tell the parent that. It's not my business!!!

I haven't had that happen, but I think I would just tell the person how rude they are if it did! If I don't particularly care for the name of someone else's child, who cares? I'm not fond of my newborn nephew's name, but I would NEVER say it to the parents.

I know some people don't like LO's name--initially both our moms gave us the side eye about it, but we like it and honestly, they should not be criticizing anyone after the names they gave us!
A teenager once asked me, "Why did you name her that?" Haha. All I could do was laugh.

Why do they feel they should have any opinion? It's none of their business.We get criticized because we named LO after DH's dad. Everyone is like, "but he's still alive!!!" I don't know someone had to be dead in order for their grandchild to take their name?

DH's family questioned our name choice . my DD's name is Audrey and they said we should change it to Aubree....well DH snapped and said its AUDREY and I dont want to hear anything else about it.
We never heard a peep from his side.

To be fair she didn't say it to me personally but she kept going.on and.on about it to my friend... Like on multiple occasions and To the point where my friend told her off about it.

That's really rude and so strange, it never occurred to me to care what other people name their kids unless I was asked, or in a naming discussion. On another not though, why did your friend tell you? Not helpful, although good for her for telling the coworker off.
