Mr. Jacks had it when we were dating, luckily I diagnosed it early and he felt better within 5 days of taking meds.

@rahlyrah: he got the tick over a weekend. I saw him about 4 days later and was horrified to see the bullseye lesions at that time. I prescribed doxy right then as soon as I saw his skin, so the longest possible time it could have been from tick exposure was 7 days.

I hope he has a similar response and feels better very soon!

My sister had/has it but it was caught much later. She had catheter/port IV antibiotics for several months and it has permanently affected her health. So, completely different scenario - I am glad your brother is getting treated quickly!

I had it last year and we caught it when it was still in the bulls eye lesion as well. I took those super nasty antibiotics and unfortunately they made me feel worse than the tick bite, but that is because I just reacted badly to them! It's been over a year and I have had no more side effects or anything! I hope your brother starts feeling better soon!

DH had it. We have no clue when he was bitten. We never found a tick. He felt better within a week of starting antibiotics.

I had it. It was caught early and I haven't had any long term effects from it. I hope your brother feels better soon!

Wagon Sr.'s coworker was diagnosed years ago and still suffers from chronic pain. My coworker's wife had it while pregnant and also has chronic pain many years later. But from the looks of it here, if you catch and treat it early you could be symptom free quickly.

From my understanding of Lyme (from my primary care, who is an infectious disease specialist and I was misdiagnosed by a nurse while my primary was on vacation!) it's incredibly difficult to diagnose and the way the disease manifests itself in people can vary so much.

Never had it but I grew up in a region where it was really common.

Where we live now, there is a thing called tick encephalitis, and they vaccinate pretty much everyone for it. From what I understand 10% of the ticks here carry it and you basically get meningitis. Gah! But at least it is preventable.

I had it in 2009 - caught it in the bullseye stage. Dr said it didn't look like the typical bullseye but gave me the rx anyway. I filled it but did not want to take it until I got the confirmation that it was/wasn't Lyme. The next day or so I started to feel awful - basically like the flu but worse, couldn't really get out of bed or talk I was so achy. I started taking the rx right away and was 100% better after a full course of meds. No lasting side effects!
