Sick of paying $$$ for a hair cut when i just want a trim! I'm thinking about getting a haircut from an advanced grad at Aveda but i've heard mixed reviews.
Any experiences to share?

I used to exclusively use hair schools to get my hair cuts and highlights done. Then I had a baby and couldn't afford the extra time it took to go there (drive AND ridiculously long cut time, they are learning after all).
I loved all but one cut (Cut my hair all at one length and I had awesome bell-hair), and would totally keep going if I had the time

I haven't but one of my BFFs loves it! She's never had an issue!

At my aveda salon they have different levels of stylists- the alphas cost $25 for a women's haircut- they aren't students, but are new graduates. Then there are protégés which are a level up and cost $30. If the school thing doesn't work out, maybe check to see if your Aveda salon has any of the lower level stylists.

@Freckles: I have done it many times and have always had a good experience. The instructor/mentor comes over at each step and the stylist explains what they are going to do etc. One this though is that it will be longer than a normal cut at a salon because there is a lot of consultation

@Freckles: not a haircut but a facial and a pedicure. It takes foooorrrreeevvvvveeeerrrrrrrrr because they go through everything with the instructor.

Not aveda specifically, but another hair school... I went consistently for about a year but ended up going back to my regular stylist because there were so many botched cuts and dye jobs.
@mrswin: oh, there was never an instructor supervising them - ha!

I have! When the Aveda Academy was new in town it was my go-to salon. It got pretty popular after a while and the wait list became over a month long for a haircut so I started going elsewhere.

I went to one in Chapel Hill before and it was a great haircut. Just takes a little longer than usual as they have to have a teacher approve their work.

I have a few times. Generally, the hair cuts are only okay, but my hair was long enough at the time that the stakes were pretty low.
