Recently my wedding ring has caused what looks like a chemical burn on my ring finger! It hurts so much that I can't wear my ring anymore. I'm guessing cleaner got underneath. Has anyone had this happen? How did it resolve? I haven't worn my ring for a week so it looked like it was going away...but nope, I put it on again last night before bed and it happened again. I've soaked the ring in jewelry cleaner and then in water. Still, no luck!

What is it made out of? Any chance it's white gold and maybe needs to be redipped?
this happened to DH, but just a couple months after our wedding. He had a tungsten ring and we didn't realize there was nickel in it.

@MaryM: yep, it's white gold. I've worn it for over 6 years and it's never done this!

@HLK208: I had it for a really long time. I ended up not wearing my rings for a while. I'm really not sure what changed but one day I put them on and it stopped happening. I would say I got it for a good 3 years before it stopped happening. Is it like this?
Mine is Platinum.

Not sure if this is the same thing or not, but my wedding rings causes a rash for me too and tends to be super itchy. I have to clean it once a month in white vinegar and hydrogen-peroxide! My rings are both platinum.

I thought mine was caused because my engagement ring is white gold, but I switched it to platinum and I still have issues if I don't clean them often enough.

@HLK208: my finger looks like @mediagirl: The jeweler suspected that water was getting trapped under my ring when I washed my hands - I stopped wearing it for a few days and used some aquaphor on it - it went away. Now after I wash my hands I remove my rings and dry my finger

This happened to me too and just soaking it in cleaner didn't seem to do anything. Mine kind of has holes on the underside that go through to the diamonds, and I think some yucky soap/lotion/baby poop/who knows stuff got really stuck up in there. I gave it a super vigorous cleaning with a toothbrush and toothpaste, made sure I got it sparkling clean even on the inside, and it hasn't happened again since!

Also try hydrocortisone for the rash. A week or two regimen of that and no rings was what worked the best for me!

I cleaned with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide and didnt wear rings for a week and it finally cleared up!

@HLK208: I got this after we had DD home, I washed/used hand sanitizer 10000 a day, it sits under your ring at eats bacteria and is wet!
Once I started taking my ring off when I washed hands and such it got better, also after 7 months I'm not so OCD

I got eczema on my ring finger so a different type of rash. Dermatologist mentioned he sees it often because soap remains after washing your hands. He said rinse and dry well. I needed a prescription cream to get rid of it.

Yep!! Happens once every year and a half to two years. I have to have it redipped in the white gold.
What happens is the white gold wears down and then there is lesser quality gold underneath. If you are allergic to Nickel like I am you can develop that rash when it comes in contact with your skin. -
My friend had this happening until she started cleaning it weekly by boiling it. I don't know if hers was gold or platinum but I'd do some research before boiling the rings, but it worked better than cleaner for her.

Yes this happens to me when pregnant and for a while pp. Looks exactly like your picture! My skin seems to be able to deal with it when not pregnant - but I had no idea about this re-dipping business, maybe I should look into it! Mine are both white gold too.

Happened to me at about 9 months pp. Cleared up after a bit of steroid cream and no rings for 2 weeks.
that's a long time! I miss my ring!
