I’ve heard direct deposits have started but no one I know has gotten them yet. Any of you?

Question - I'm assuming since DD was born in November, and therefore not on our taxes last year, that we won't get $500 for her, right?
nectarine / 2400 posts
@Chuckles: Nov of 19? Did u file 19 taxes yet? If you filed for 19 I would say yes. If you haven’t filed 19 yet I would say no
persimmon / 1495 posts
@gotkimchi: correct. 11/19. And in didn't even consider that we could have filed our taxes yet this year Oh well.
pomelo / 5509 posts
We did. It just got deposited yesterday I think. I was surprised to see it there.

Nope; I have Chase. I heard credit unions seem to be getting them earlier.

@graceandjoy: oh that’s interesting. I was just wondering if there was any rhyme or reason but it’s the government so that’s a silly question
nectarine / 2765 posts
@graceandjoy: hmmm...we have a credit union and got ours, so there could be something to that theory
pomelo / 5509 posts
@graceandjoy: @Caly: Oh we have a credit union too, so maybe that’s true.

Woke up to find it had been deposited into my account. I filed in February and it did include my 11/19 baby.

Woke up to ours in our checking account this morning. Got a text from my mom that they got theirs too.

Those of you that have gotten it, what is it labeled as? I just filed my taxes and have two deposits but neither are the amount I was expecting for my taxes!
nectarine / 2018 posts
@HappyBaker: My stimulus deposit is listed as IRS TREAS TAX REF. I just went back and checked my federal tax refund and it was listed as IRS TREAS 310 DES: TAX REF and had an ID number with it. Hope that helps!
nectarine / 2242 posts
@catgirl: thank you! That helped! I realized I paid for my TurboTax via out of my return so that’s why the one amount wasn’t exactly my tax amount.
pear / 1565 posts
@HappyBaker: I had the same as @catgirl:
I also got my state refund (finally) too!

we have not gotten ours - I did check the portal today because it's live and it said they didn't have enough info to direct deposit our money. That could be because we haven't gotten a federal tax refund in at least a few years. So I updated our bank info and we will see what happens
persimmon / 1495 posts
@Ms. RV: oh man. Now I really wish we had been on top of our taxes. I had been planning to do them during my spring break at the end of March.
pear / 1992 posts
Just checked after seeing more people in this thread receiving theirs and ours has been deposited!
We already filed our 2019 taxes back in early Feb, got our tax refund, and the amount for the stimulus check is correct.
pear / 1930 posts
@Chuckles: I read somewhere (can't remember where) that if you get less than what you actually were supposed to get, you'll get the difference in your 2020 return. Not sure if it is 100% accurate.

We got ours overnight. We filed in February and don't use a credit union.
nectarine / 2262 posts
Not yet, but we also haven't filed our taxes yet, so idk if that may affect it?
pear / 1565 posts
I’m with Chase, filed 2019 taxes (rec’d refund already), and for the $ today as well. 2020 baby I guess so far is coming as a credit on 2020 return.

@DesertDreams88: same! Also the state refund came through earlier than usual. Wow, this makes me feel so much better about our finances if I get laid off. I've only been back at work for four months so I'd been worrying about how we'll make ends meet, especially since food and many basics already cost nearly twice as much as usually.

Got ours today, direct deposit. Filed end of January, not a credit union.

F/u for the group: does anyone make more then 150 but less then 198 and got a reduced payment? If so, did you get a full 500 per kid or was that reduced as well
nectarine / 2047 posts
@gotkimchi: we are in that category and we got the full $500 for DS. I did the math myself and used a calculator.
This calculator will tell you what you should’ve got: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/taxes/coronavirus-stimulus-bill-payments/
If you put in 0 for children, it is exactly $500 less per child.
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@gotkimchi: kid payment is only reduced above 198k I believe (so some people will get kid only payments that reduce as AGI goes up above the limit)

Did anyone get one but not need one? A lot of people are still working and receiving income, so it's interesting that they will be receiving a stimulus check. And why the surprise at receiving the check? I'm so curious about how all of this is going down. I haven't gotten one.
cherry / 236 posts
@agold: needing one isn't the point. The stim check is to keep the economy moving, and the theory behind the majority of people getting one is that those who really need it will spend it on essentials to stay afloat, and those who don't need it will spend it on non-essentials, thus keeping the economy afloat.
I've seen some proposals for UBI during the pandemic as well and the theory is the same-- that the people who don't "need" it will spend it and therefore prop up the lagging economy.
nectarine / 2400 posts
@agold: it’s based strictly on your AGI not employment status or anything else. If you haven’t gotten yours yet you should check the portal and see what’s up. They might just need your bank info. If you don’t do direct deposit and wait for a paper check it might be a while
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@agold: I think the surprise factor is based on a lack of good communication about timing as well as qualifications (I didn’t know until yesterday that some people above (but close to) 198k AGI will still get a check because of kids)
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@helloperidot: got it.
@crazydoglady: some people posting above said they were surprised.
@bhbee: Oh yea. And I can't even imagine how hard it is to talk about anything related to COVID. I'm dealing with it myself and my industry is in fully unchartered waters. I have zero idea how this is going to all play out and how there will be trillions to give to people. I love seeing who is jumping on board to help figure out wtf to do. Like Mark Cuban all of a sudden! And are people really over the $198 and still getting something because of kids? Wouldn't that be great!
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@agold: I just used the calculator above to check the limits - 2 kids it phases out at 218k and 3 kids at 228k AGI
