Has anyone tried this? Were you successful?
I'm 41+1 and I am considering it.

Yes, I did. Didn't send me in to labor, but I was favorable for induction, and it went super smooth, so it may have helped prep my body!

I'm sorry, can I laugh? that's hilarious.
You have 3 days of absolute gorgeous weather coming - go for as long of a walk as you can stand.

Someone posted about this before! I don't remember who it was, but she said the pump started her labor!

Oh no! You're still preggo @sslm: !! I was just wondering if you had that babe! Never heard of pumping to induce... Did they sweep your membranes?

I've heard it will give you some real contractions! I know when moms are past their due date my midwife reccomends it. Good luck!!!

Also... do some deep squats & lunges around the house! That helped me get to 4cm without any pain!!

@hellobeeboston: my midwife tried yesterday but I wasn't really dilated so it wasn't very successful, I didn't have any cramps or bleeding afterwards. We are trying it again tomorrow and again over the weekend, with an induction planned for Monday.

Search for acupressure induction on YouTube...DH did it for over an hour and that's what made my water break! (I swear!)

I used it when I'd been in early labor for over 12 hours, had had a night of sleep and was ready to get things moving. It totally worked to bring on stronger, more regular contractions and during one of those contractions, I felt DD move down and her head engage and then it was game on.
Pumping/nipple stimulation is one of the more reliable natural induction methods I've heard of and it will work for some women to actually start labor, but you have to do it for long enough periods close together consistently. And you have to just need that "bump" to get things rolling.

One of my best friends did this successfully. She said she pretty much "pumped" for a few hours.

Um, yeah. My midwife suggested it (well, nipple stimulation, trying out the breast pump seemed easiest). But she said no more than 15 minutes, and I was already in early labor when I did. It kicked them up a lot.

@sslm: just responded to your question about this in the April 2013 thread.
My midwife was the one who recommended it.
As you know, I like you, am open to pretty much anything at this point!

@sslm: Get a foot massage too. Apparently, there's a special spot around the ankles.

I tried it all. Nothing worked. Footmassages, sex, pineapples, walking, spicy food..and the list goes on.
The pump made my breasts release colostrum!!! It was freaky hehe
I think all of my walking worked though...not to induce labor, but to make labor progress super quickly and make my contractions come on STRONG.
You're a week late...considering induction any time soon?

I totally did it hahahaha. I felt crampy afterward but it always went away. Starting at 38 weeks I used the pump, walked a ton, bounced on an exercise ball a lot, ate spicy food and tons of pineapple! My water broke on 38+5.

Usually it's great for a stalled labor who to help a prodromal labor but most of what I've heard in regards to "inducing" is it causes intense yet ineffective contractions. Personally, I would sleep & rest up as much as you can to prepare.... Says the one who went to 41+5 before delivering. Tehe

I truthfully don't know what it's like to be overdue so take this with a grain of salt but I'd just rest and hang out waiting!

I tried everything too except for castor oil. We tried breast pump, walking, evening primrose oil, spicy food, acupuncture, etc... I was scheduled for an induction finally but went into labor the day before. Still, I hope it works for you. Glad you have a date set in any case.

During my (ultimately unsuccessful) induction, nipple stimulation brought on stronger contractions than pitocin.
