The hubs and I have been together since 2007 (married in 2010) and have never broken up. We did, however, talk about the potential of ending our relationship when my parents didn't approve of our being together (only because he is younger than I am...My mom had a cow at that. Now, my parents love the hubs more than they love me!).

we have because when we first got together i was on vacation from university in europe and when I went back to europe the long distance thing was a bit hard for us because it was too early in the relationship..

We have never broken up. We have been together since 2004 and definitely went through a rocky couple of years. We made it through stronger and healthier, though.

DH and I actually dated 3 times before getting engaged, but the first two are pretty hard to count. Both were only for a couple of weeks and fizzled out quickly since DH did not want a girlfriend (we had just graduated from college and he was living' it up with his roomates in the big city). So it's not like we were in a real relationship and broke up, we just never got it going.

DH and I dated for two months when i was 17 and he was 20. He was a jerk so that ended. But we started dating again when I was 19 and he was 22. He had definitely matured and now he treats me like I'm the best thing thats ever happened to him.

Yes, we've been together since 1997 and had some on/off phases during the first year or two. I think we always got back together quickly after "breaking up" though. We were only 18 yrs old so we didn't know what the heck we were doing.

DH and I had a 5 year gap where we didn't see each other, only emailed every couple of months. We met and dated for 3 months when I was a sophomore in college in 2003. We split up because I was a little immature (ok, a lot immature) and he was really old-school conservative. He dated someone else for most of the 5 years we were apart and I had 2 relationships during that time, but we stayed in contact through occasional email. Fast forward to the spring of 2008 and his ex was borderline cheating on him, and I had ended my relationship and was getting ready to move. He split from his gf and a month later we were together. We haven't looked back since.

We met in high school and were 16 and 17 at the time. I went to an all-girls hs and he went to an all-boys one 40 minutes away. Dated for a few months, but it was hard to see him because of parents, lack of a car, etc... The attraction was there though, definitely. After graduation, we went our separate ways... off to different colleges, etc. We had zero contact with each other right after high school. This was pre-email, google, etc. We only had a few mutual friends and i lost contact with them too. Never thought I'd hear from him again. So that was our break-up.
But 7 years later in 2003, he google'd me... and although I was in SF and he was in NYC, we connected and started seeing each other again. We were engaged very soon after and married in 2005. Our hs relationship and our adult relationship are completely separate beings though. But since our adult one, no we have never broken up.

Nope, we've never broken up, although we've definitely gone through some difficult times in our relationship. I met DH when I was in my mid-20s, and he was in his late 20's, and I was finally in a place where I was so over the dramatic relationships I had experienced with my exes.

Yes, DH andI were really good friends and then in mid 2006 we began to date. Which I was not ready for seeing as I was still fighting desperatly to get divorced from my abusive ex husband. I just wasnt ready. DH was everything I wished I had in my first marriage and that scared me, just was not ready. He was an amazing friend helping me get through my divorce more than anyone he understood what I was going through. But when it got more serious between us it was just too much at that time. We split for three months. Then one day I woke up and just ached with how much I missed him despite how terrified I was of putting my heart back out there. We got back together, my divorce finally went through. Moved in together in 2008, and then engaged begining of 2009, then married mid 2010.

We broke up for about 8 hours. I moved in with him after dating for 5 months, and we had major issues. After two weeks of not communicating, he said he wanted me to move out and things would go back to like they would be before. I said no way, if I'm out we're over, I'm not taking a step back. It was late, we said I'd move out the next day, we went to sleep, woke up, and he said he wanted to work things out.
We never had any issues after that.

Yup-- we started dating my sophomore year in HS (he was a senior) and we broke up the summer between my jr/sr years. Then we broke up again around 2002ish?

I also met my husband in 2007 (and married in 2010). A couple months after we started dating we got into a huge fight. He said something that I took to mean that we were broken up. But in his mind we were not. The next day we got it straightened out. So if you ask me, yes we broke up. But if you ask him he will tell you no.

Yes. We started dating the summer between junior and senior year of high school in 2006. Almost 3 years later, while in college, we broke up for 8 months. It was an awful, emotional, drama-filled break up. AWFUL. Eventually, I tried dating someone else (obviously that didn't work out) and we got back together again at the end of 2009. We were engaged the next summer and married in June 2011.
Sooo many people never thought we'd get married because of what happened during the break-up. But when we got back together, we were more mature and we knew how to communicate better so we had way less arguments.

Yep. We started dating when I was 18 and DH was 19, after about a year and a half, things got rocky and we split for 5ish weeks. Then we got back together and haven't looked back.... we're heading into year 9 now. I think for us it was to much to soon when we were to young, and we both got scared that this felt like forever already. After a breif sampling of the dating world on both our parts, we were reminded that it sucks out there and we're a good match!

Yeah, we broke up.
First, we met in highschool and "hooked up" (i.e. made out) a few times, but we never officially dated. He graduated before me and we lost touch (pre-facebook).
Then, we ran into eachother 3 years later while I was in town from college and started dating. After a year of being together long distance, he was starting his Masters and working fulltime and we had several conversation about how "he wasn't sure he could put as much time and energy into the relationship as he wanted." I said "well, I'm not going to sit here and wait for you to figure that out, so we should just end this."
4 weeks later, he came begging back, and we've been together ever since (8 years). We still joke with eachother about who broke up with who....

Wow, there are some really interesting stories in this thread!! Rob Sr. and I have been together since January 2003 and have never broken up. I attribute this to us being long distance for the first 6 months, for our last semester of senior year of college (him in Ithaca, NY, me in Boston, MA) and that was TORTURE. I hated every minute of it, but it forced our relationship to be based on real stuff instead of physical attraction, convenience, etc. It's the first time I was ever in a relationship with a guy for more than a month! After we graduated college he moved to Boston and we have been together every day since then.

Hubs and I dated for a few months when we were sophomores in high school, but it ended in the summer. I was to blame - he went away and I "liked" another guy. Things didn't work out with the other guy, and I actually didn't run into hubs in the halls out entire junior year. I had completely forgotten about him until I ran into him part way into senior year and, well, my eyes glazed over and I totally had a major crush on him again!!! I purposely walked that same hallway at the same time every day to try to run into him. On days that I did see him, I was floating on cloud nine! After a few times he began walking me to my next class. A few weeks of that and then he asked me to a movie on Christmas Eve! We watched Green Mile and I will never forget that date. I was super nervous and we did the awkward hand hold (so high school!). A few days later he invited me to his NYE party since his parents were away. It was a whole group of his friends and he kissed me when the ball dropped. Everything else, as they say, is history. We just celebrated our 12th datingversary.
