The whole football team in my high school (other than the one Jewish football player) thought it was the funniest thing to say that things were "jewed down." I have a feeling some of them didn't even know what it meant, but it still hurt. One of them said it to me once and when I didn't laugh said, "oh, I forgot you were Jewish." Yeah, that's why you shouldn't say that to me, because I'm Jewish and not because it's stupid and mean.
I've heard lots of things like that, I especially hate the Jew joke about ashtrays and the Holocaust. I've been to Auschwitz and it's no joke.
I do worry that LO will have to hear things like that too. Have you experienced racism, and are you affraid your LO will have to deal with it too?
I'm pretty sure kids were racist towards me when I was younger, but it's all a blur.
