I was terrified of driving after a car accident in 2011. I was on bed rest for 5 days and it took me few more days to get behind the wheel.

Yes. In college I went tubing and the water was unseasonably high. We went over some rapids and I flipped out of my tube and got sucked under the water by the strong undercurrent. I refuse to go tubing/rafting/or anything similar. It was scary!

So scary!
I had my first cavity when I was 18, the dentist said it was tiny and I didn't need novocaine. They hit a nerve bad it hurt SO bad I was terrified of the dentist and metal touching my teeth (like a fork, etc) for almost a decade! Like, shaking, crying, losing-hair anxiety.
I finally got over it!

I was attacked from behind and now I'm always uncomfortable when someone is walking behind me!

I'm scared of big waves in the ocean. I was boogie boarding and flipped off the board and every time I tried to stand up, another wave knocked me down. One wave knocked me down then dragged me back along the sandy/rocky bottom. My BF at the time finally pulled me out, but I have a big scar on my stomach/hip from being dragged. Never. Again.

I was in a car accident last year and now I'm incredibly tense whenever I have to change lanes.

I had food poisoning from sushi and took me over a year to eat it again.
I still cry if I go to dentist for more than a cleaning after bad experiences in my childhood.

I was in a car accident as a passenger once. It could've been really bad because the car actually drove into a glass store front. Luckily, I only sprained an ankle. Maybe this is why I'm always nervous being a passenger.

@mrbee: oh my goodness, that's scary!
I think childbirth is something I'm definitely pretty scared of doing again. I also jumped off a cliff once into water (not crazy high) and even though I was totally fine it terrified me. Never again!

@rachiecakes: Similarly, I went to the dentist to have some fillings after I had my baby, since she totally wrecked my teeth. I'd had a couple before, and had never been afraid of the needle, but this time when they put in the freezing they hit the nerve, and it was seriously the worst pain I'd ever felt. I had to go back the following week to do the other side and I was shaking and sweating and almost in tears.

I went snowboarding with dh and caught my board going down the hill and fell neck/face first into the snow. I had a concussion and was put in c-spine for five hours. It was horrible and the nearest hospital was over an hour away. No more snowboarding for me

@lawbee11: I had a very similar experience tubing. I was with a bunch of college friends and all of our tubes were tied together with rope. The water was high, I flipped and the rope got caught behind my knees and trapped me under the water. Luckily a friend had a knife and cut the rope pretty quickly or I would have drowned. I still have scars behind my knees from the rope cutting into them. I'll never go tubing again!

I got an IUD pre-childbirth and passed out during the insertion. I was SO scared to get a new one after having LO.
Luckily it was super easy after having a baby. PHEW.

I was in a car accident as a teenager and I didn't get in to drive a car for just over a year after it happened.
I also got bit by a dog I knew and now I'm really scared of dogs. I can still be around them but I'm super tense until the comfort level is there.

OH - and I was always afraid of the ocean and what was in it, but last year I was stung by jellyfish and I refuse to go in again.

@babycanuck I got stung by a jellyfish once and my brother was more excited about peeing on the burn than actually helping me get to a medical station (he was 9 at the time...boys)

I was the passenger in a car accident where a good friend was killed (was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle right before my eyes)...I was 15 at the time and refused to even get my learners permit until I was 18. Till this day I am an extremely anxious passenger (aka back seat driver)...you can find me in my seat, clinging on.

@Mamadee: LOL not at you being stung but at him really wanting to pee on it!
pomegranate / 3105 posts
@Mamadee: Apparently it's the acidity on it, that's why resorts will clean it with vinegar. urine...vinegar...lol
Hubs joked about peeing on mine until he got stung way worse the next day!

I got bit by a poodle once. Now I can't stand to see them when I'm out walking. An effing POODLE. Jerk dog.

I wrecked into a salt truck (laugh at the irony) on a day when the roads were slick with ice and snow. I was a confident winter driver before but after that I get major anxiety when it snows. I refuse to drive and I get bad anxiety when DH drives even though he's an excellent driver.
Luckily you only get your wisdom teeth out once or I wouldn't be doing that again. I was traumatized by that minor surgery! Everyone kept telling me I would be eating regular food and feeling great after 2 days and I spent 2 weeks barely eating mashed potatoes and in crazy amounts of pain.

I was also mugged a few years back and I still get nervous walking down the street alone at night. Before the incident, I had no qualms about walking alone.
@Mrs. Taco: That is heartbreaking I'm so sorry.

I got trapped in a walk in freezer at school when I was 7. I was pretty claustrophobic for a while after that... I didn't even want to go into the school bathroom alone because I was afraid I'd get trapped in there.
