I'm thinking about deleting mine. I've been on facebook since I was a senior in college--2005!
I wonder if all my old pics will delete when I delete my account? I'm too lazy to back them all up!

I did. After a bad break up. Self preservation thing. I know a lot of people who have gone off at one time or another. It's usually relationship related and then they come back. Not always though!

@chopsuey: Have you ever logged back into FB since deleting it? I didn't realize it wasn't permanently deleted if you deleted it?

@matador84: yeah, if you log back in after deactivating, then it becomes active again..
I haven't been on in over a year though. Is there a "delete" option now?

@chopsuey: As far as I know you can delete it and it's pretty permanent. I have friends who have done it and aren't searchable anymore.

@chopsuey: I can't remember how, but there is a "delete" option separate from deactivating. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops to do it!

I considered deactivating, but I've just been not going on instead. The only bad thing about that is that I hope people haven't tried to message me and think I'm ignoring them or something.

@matador84: Yes - I deleted mine last year. I believe you have to be completely inactive for 6 months / nobody trying to contact you/message you..etc before it actually deletes your account. When you delete it though you arent searchable/seem deleted. There is a place on facebook that allows you to download all of your content and pictures ..its not too complicated. I don't regret deleting it ONE BIT!

I deleted mine in 2007 and then rejoined in 2009. I have no idea WHY (Oh wait, because I'm nosy
) but I'm thinking about deleting it again.

Nah. I think about it from time to time and don't go there often, but it's the easiest way to stay in contact with most of my family (the ones I have no interest in talking to on the phone...it lets me keep in contact but limit that contact to a level that I'm comfortable with).

Nope! I'm nosy and love seeing what old friends/acquaintances are up to. Plus I like keeping in touch with people and seeing pics of their family and kids.

I deactivated for about 24 hr while I was job hunting. Ended up creating a random account to keep up with FB friends. Then I realized, I could just change my name on FB. Now, that I'm not actively job hunting and realized that my account is pretty much locked down, I don't think I'll ever deactivate or delete. I use it too much to keep in touch with people.

I've deactivated it a couple of time but never took the plunge and deleted it completely. I mostly use it to see pictures of family and friends (and their babies) that live far away. Maybe after we move and my parents move with us, I'd consider deleting it.

I'm on a self-instated 6 month deactivation trial period. At the end of that time, I will likely go on bare bones (almost nothing on my wall) or delete. I did download everything and it was very easy. I've been a daily user since '07. So far, so good and I'm 2 months in.

My fb friends seem to be in the middle of a baby boom and we are struggling ttc so I have deactivated my account but I have every intention of coming back. Just wasn't good for my sanity!

I started back in 2004 and deactivated two years ago. There wasn't an option to delete back then. I'll try to delete it now. Just wasn't worth my time, especially with so many "friends" who I never talk to.

Nope. I don't post much anymore, but read my feed to see what everyone else is up to. Now that FB gives us the option to hide certain posts or posts from people, I do that to the ones I don't want to follow.
