I have thought about offering assistance or saying kinds words to frazzled moms before but then I get scared at the last minute and chicken out!
Have you ever done anything nice for stranger - was it received well?

I actually have given flowers to someone like this before! funny, it was at least 10 years ago in Harvard Square
I love happy surprises and always get nervous before I take the leap (you never know how it's going to be received!) but I always feel good about it when I do

I've paid for coffee orders behind me in the drive through. I also offer to take pictures of families whenever I see someone not in their family/group shot

I had just finished reading that article....so sweet!
A few months ago an older gentleman in front of me at the grocery store came up short & was choosing items to put back. He was with who I assume was his young grandson & it broke my heart so I paid the difference.

@Mamaof2: Usually, by the time you pull around, the person behind you has ordered and is pulling up too. So they have their order total ready. We've done this before!

I've paid for a ladies groceries before. I know the feeling of a card being declined with a long line behind you and it is humiliating!!! I need to make a better effort though. I threw out some money for a homeless guy once and it got sucked under my car and thrown into the middle of a busy intersection when I drove off. So ya.... I hope that guy is still alive!

I have done small little things before. Nothing extravagant though.
I was in a store once and saw a newer mom than me toting around her little girl. She left her diaper bag in the car because her husband was on a business call and she was just going to walk around for a few minutes (so I later found out). As I was walking by her little girl spit up all over her shoulder. She was looking a little embarrassed and had nothing to clean it up so I offered her a wet wipe. It wasn't a lot but it's one that I remember, because I know I've been in her shoes and I know I would appreciate the same in return. 
It really is the little things.

Yep! On my birthday I do one random act if kindness for every year old I am. This year will be 28 acts of kindness.
I do things like pay for peoples' orders behind me in a drive thru line/buy food and give it to random people, help people carry their groceries, ext

@Mamaof2: you just tell the cashier that you want to pay for the person behind you too and they usually charge it as two separate orders.

I have taken children to the bathroom with the parent's blessing of course and if the kid is comfortable. I have held things patiently for parents while they get whatever else they are doing altogether. I have helped load groceries in the car- for moms & seniors. I have given up my spot in line for parents with hyper kids that really are so over shopping or super hungry.

@Mamaof2: I'm pretty shy too and always question whether people will think I'm crazy or not. I don't want to invade anyone's space and I know there are times where I'm DYING for everyone to leave me alone and not even look at me. So, I don't want to be the jerk to get all up in their business.
I try to gauge it situation by situation.
DH is a LOT more vocal/helpful/whathaveyou than me and sometimes he'll be like "why didn't you do x, y, z, for them??" and I get flustered and am all like "I dunno!?!?"

@Mamaof2: ha ha me too! It's usually when I am working and the parent's are in the middle of a business transaction. They don't want to interrupt the flow and typically I have already been playing with the kid in the waiting area. So both parent and kid are comfortable with me. I do whatever it takes to get the parent out of the way so I can get back to my sales call. It's part nice, part selfish.
