It's my turn to cook for Valentine's this year and I kind of want to bust out our fondue set. We've owned it for over 4 years and have never used it! Have you ever done your own fondue? Is it hard? Any good recipes or tips to share?

YES!! I loves me some fondue. Depending on what you want to do, cheese is delicious for an appetizer but a little harder to get right. I love a good wine/broth fondue to cook my meat/veggies/pasta in. I also love oil for meat, especially if you have egg wash and breadcrumbs on the table. Chicken piece on fork, egg wash, bread crumbs, in hot oil, mmmmm.
I also suggest marinating your meats before you cook them. Makes it that much more delicious.

We did but the cheese one we made was yucky. The chocolate one was fantastic!
We just followed the recipes that came w/ the set and it was easy.

We do fondue a lot. Love apples, bread, veggies, we rarely do meat.

@Boogs: Boneless skinless chicken breasts, beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin are my faves. DH likes shrimp and scallops. If we're doing oil I do mushrooms and zucchini, if we're doing broth/wine I'll add broccoli, cauliflower potatoes and some sort of ravioli.

I don't think I've ever had fondue in general! Good luck on your at home fondue!! Sounds super romantic!

We did chocolate, which was awesome! I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese one we did... it had a weird consistency.

@Mrs. Jacks: Dip all that in cheese? Is the cheese hard to do?
@prettylizy: That sounds amazing!
I'm looking forward to trying this out next month now!

@Pepper: @X0X0X0: @mrs. wagon: The chocolate will be for sure if all else fails!
@X0X0X0: Thanks for the recipe!
@Alivoo01: Thanks! You should try it sometime! We used to have a place we really liked that was local. They unfortunately closed that location and their other one is too far for us.

We do cheese fondue a couple times per year. We have a good classic fondue recipe. They key is in the ingredients. We buy emmentaler and gruyere from Whole Foods or a specialty cheese shop. The recipe also calls for Kirsch, which is a cherry brandy. Fondue is so yummy!

@Boogs: Which place did you like? I've been to a few around the Bay.

@Boogs: The cheese is pretty easy. It's emmentaller and/or gruyere with a little wine and Kirsch with a tablespoon of flour for thickening.

@MaisyMay: Melting Pot. Had just the dessert at La Fondue, and it was good but pricey.
@Mrs. Jacks: I think I can handle that, thanks.

We have a fondue! The Melting Pot has a cookbook you can buy and I have done a couple of their recipes and they were so good!

It's super simple to make! You should definitely try it. I think the quality of the cheese does make a big difference, so be aware of that. I have one recipe my mom always made growing up, but usually I just google recipes until I find one that looks yummy. Oh, and dessert fondue is one of my favorites, too.

@prettylizy: Careful, my system couldn't handle dairy for a little while after. I had to ease back in. You might be in for a world of hurt if you go straight for fondue. Then again, the hurt might be worth it!

We do cheese fondue every Christmas with DH's family because they're Swiss. You need Emmentaler cheese, kirsch, and gruyere. The figure 8 stirring pattern is really important!

i love fondue. I would eat it every month if I could but DH finds it too long. I make my own dipping sauces, and pair it with roasted potatoes & garlic butter. yum!

@Mrs. Jacks: I actually just talked to my Doc about this. She suggested I wean myself back onto dairy slowly, and has a digestive enzyme that she wants me to take. I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning though I just want CHEEEEESSSEE! lol!

YES! We've done cheese and chocolate. I also have a fondue set, but we cooked the fondue on the stovetop and then transferred it to the fondue pot to serve it. Delicious!

@Mrs. Sunglasses: Might need to blog that.
@JessiBee: That's a great idea!

@Boogs: I had a roommate who worked there, so she showed us how to order cheap...like $50 for 2 people for dinner and dessert. It wasn't cheap by other places standards, but cheap by L.F.'s. There's a place in Livermore that I want to try.

We did cheese and as much as I love cheese, I felt so sick afterwards from too much cheese!

I did this also for our first Valentines day together. I got a beer cheese recipe online and it was deliscious! We ended up skipping dinner and just eating that. I have also tried chocolate a couple times but couldn't get a good consistancy so I will be trying a new recipe next time.
