When we were kids, I LOVED eating the nectar of honeysuckle. It was so delicious!! We planted a honeysuckle bush in our backyard last year and it's getting big already. I love the smell and taste of it!

All the time when I was a kid. We were recently in Savannah, and I found myself picking blossoms along the way as we walked around the city. I so love the smell and really want to plant a bush in our yard here.

I did! But I can't remember what it smells like now...The last time I had the nectar, I was very very young. My grade 1 teacher taught us how!

Yes! My grandparents had a hedge of honeysuckle on their farm. Smelled and tasted delectable. The only downside was dodging all the bees

Wow! I never heard of this before! Do you eat the whole flower or just lick the nectar off the flowers? Is the bush the same as the vine? If it is, I have them growing in the yard.

@mrbee: omg, ditto! they were everywhere in VA where my dad lives (I spend summers with him).
Hubs has never seen one, and I kind of want to buy a bush from Home Depot to plant in our yard. Funny how they grow wild/are kind of a weed elsewhere, but I have to get one from the nursery here in SoCal.

@Crumbs: The way I did it, you would pluck the flower, then pull the middle stem from the bottom of the flower... and it would pull all of the nectar out with it. Then you'd suck the nectar from the base of the flower.
