Before we were married one of my dh's dogs ran away. His roommate hit the dog and the back door was open. She ran out. 
His roommate wouldn't even help him put up flyers. Fortunately a nice family found her and she was returned.

my last dog was a runner. any time a door or gate was open he would go (common trait for Shibas) Once he got picked up by the cops and we found him in their jail cell. another time he got loose at the shore and went like 15 blocks, he followed a college age girl who kinda looked like me into her yard and they called my parents.

Our dog has gotten out but we always catch him. We live close to a busy road so it's so scary..... and he thinks its a chase game. I made dh put up a fence in the front yard so no more worries for me.

Our dog was missing for about 30 minutes once. I was at a friend's house and DH called to tell me. It was a nightmare, but thankfully she was found quickly. I don't know what I would do if she was gone longer than that, she's my baby!

Yes, and I was (and still am) so saddened over it.
