a little. mostly because our old neighbourhood meant a 5 minute walk to work for DH, and a car for me during the day (we only have one car right now) and easily accessed public transport if DH needed the car for whatever reason.

our new neighbourhood is not very walkable, especially with a stroller (think hills upon hills upon even steeper hills). it's a 20 min commute for DH, and it's out of the public transport network

once we get another car i'm sure I'll forget all these complaints though!!

@babyjmama: we have had many instances of regretting to stay here. Well I have. our biggest push to stay here was because the ILs had decided to move back and we didn't want them to have no family nearby when they are older. My mom has my two brothers so it seemed right. And overall our current city is much more conducive to how we want to raise our family. But there are times when I wonder if we made the right decision.

I regret buying our house in the town we bought it in. I wish we hadn't listened to our real estate agent who was only looking to make a sale and had done some more research. Now we're stuck until we pay it off (hopefully before M finishes middle school).

We moved 3.5 years ago for me to go to grad school, and we definitely miss our old city. We have a good number of friends where we live now, including both of our best friends, but in general our friends aren't friends with each other as much as they were in our old city, where we had kind of a (non-exclusive) clique. So like, it used to be a question of who would host a party for July 4th, Halloween, New Year's, etc, but always with the same group of people, whereas now we have to figure out what we want to do and with what group of friends. And in our old city, apartments were bigger so often get-togethers were in someone's home, which I prefer--more low-key than going out to a bar or restaurant, which is usually expensive plus packed/rushed/loud/etc. I also just like our old city better--it's still a major metropolitan area, but smaller and more manageable than where we are now.

Yes, before DH and I got married, we thought we wanted to live in FL, where most of his family is and where he grew up. But, once we were there for a few months we decided it wasn't for us, and moved back to Charlotte. We did get married in FL, though.

I know @rachiecakes has a great relocation regret story! (not "great", but you know what I mean!)

I spent one summer living outside of this area... I lived in New Jersey and commuted in to NYC for an internship. I HATED IT. Now because of this, we'll never live anywhere near NYC because I refuse to subject myself to that commute again, and I know I couldn't live in the city. Poor Wagon Sr., since he grew up in NYC...!!

I moved from the city to the suburbs when we got married and while I'll always be a city girl, I'm happy to be raising M here. All of our family is really close, we have lots of great things to do near us an d we're only about 30-40 min from the city, so I can't really complain.

@Anagram: I didn't mind NJ in itself... it was the commute into the city! I was in Bergen County and took a NJ transit bus to port authority, then had to transfer twice (I worked near the Queensborough bridge). It was such a hot summer, I remember there was a news report where they took thermometers down into subway stations and they were reading over 100 degrees fahrenheit. I never once showed up to work not soaked in sweat.

I have to make a conscious effort daily to not regret my choices. Nothing against this new place, of course, I just really miss my *home*. Maybe if a weird sort of tunnel would open up from the Gulf all the way to KS so I could have my ocean back, I could be a LOT happier

@babyjmama: You were definitely in a much more exciting place before - I can see your dilemma!

I have pangs of regret that we've left Switzerland. It is a wonderful place to raise children, it's safe, clean, easy to navigate. You just don't have the worries that you do in the US.

Now that I am PG, I am having twinges of regret. I have a long commute & work long hours. (I think I am more tired of the work hours than the commute). I love our home but am worrying about logistics of day care combined with the work hours and commute. I also worry about not having much awake time with our baby. I have a great job, salary and 17+ years with my company but I may be job searching after maternity leave.

@mrs. wagon: A lot of my co-workers are from NJ and they ALL HATE HATE HATE that Port Authority bus ride. No one ever got home on time unless they left before 5.

We moved out to the suburbs 3 years ago and I sometimes regret it. I love my house and like my neighborhood but I'm a 45 minute to an hour drive away from our family and friends. It wasn't so bad when we didn't have kids but now having to factor in the time in the car every time we visit is a pain. It really puts a damper on our social life and since I'm a SAHM it really makes me feel lonely out here. It's been hard for me to make friends here because I just plain do not know where to look. There are a few meet up groups and I see some parents at Gymboree but being Asian in a predominately white neighborhood makes me self-conscious and shy. I know it's a "better way of life" but I miss my chaotic and diverse hometown.

Yes, sometimes I miss living in a big city.

Sort of?? We're living in the place I grew up, but my husband doesn't really love it here. I think part of it may be that we are still settling in and looking for jobs, so it's been a hard transition, especially since my husband is from another country and doesn't really speak English that well. I don't anticipate that we'll be here long-term, but it'll do for the next few years. I think that it just doesn't feel like "home" to us yet, which makes us both question our transition here.

I'm actually surprised at how much I miss the life we had when we lived in my husband's country, and really can see myself settling down long-term to live there.

I don't know if any of that counts as regret per se, but it's how I feel!

I have not moving regret. When I was a senior in college, I pictured myself moving to NYC or Chicago and working in an ad agency. Things happened & then I met my husband.. He was supposed to be taking a job in NY, but didn't and stayed here with me.

Now we are "stuck". We talk about moving all the time -- to DC or Roanoke or San Fran -- but I'm almost 30 and feel rooted here. And my family is all here.

Whomp whomp. I don't think I'll ever have the guts to leave. My brother & his wife picked up and moved south and I was all "you go, Glenn Coco!"

@babyjmama: We met in Boston, lived together here and decided to buy a weekend home in upstate NY. It was our dream house in a beautiful area. We loved it so much DH looked around at jobs there and when a great opportunity presented itself, we decided to move there.
We were there 8 weeks.
We found out really quickly that we are city people, Bostonians, through and through. The change of pace wasn't our cup of tea no matter how beautiful the house was, the area is, how great the jobs were, etc.
We moved back and eventually sold the house. We've been house hunting here for a while and of course the more affordable/bigger homes are outside the city and yeah, we just can't. At least not while DS is still small and we don't really have to think about school just yet. We'll continue to sit on our investment and rent our townhouse until we can decide where to buy.

I don't regret it though!
