I felt like my heart was broken at the time, but I think now that it could have been worse. So I'm not sure.

Yes, when DH and I broke up after almost 3 years of dating. We were broken up for almost a year and it was so rough.

My heart broke when I broke up with my HS boyfriend, but I was really and truly heart broken when this guy I liked totally dismissed me after I threw everything I had into him and he took advantage of it. I'm still crushed and that was over 4 years ago.

@chopsuey: same, it felt broken at the time but it wasn't love. So I was just crushed.

Yes, twice.
@rahlyrah: Boo to him!
@lilteacherbee: DH and I broke up after 11 months of dating. We were only apart for a few weeks, but it was terrible. I can't imagine a year. I'm glad you and your DH got back together!

once, my 'first love' in high school. in hindsight, it wasn't real heartbreak but it sure did feel like it at the time!

Yeah. I was engaged to a real...piece of work in college. I felt destroyed when we finally broke up and especially when I had to move out. But thank god I didn't marry him, ugh.

DH and I had a really rough patch where we took time off 7 years ago, my heart was totally broken. It was the lowest point in my life by far.

Yes, but it was more an accumulated heartbreak. Before i met hubs i went through 3 bad breakups, one after the other. After the last one i was completely wrecked, i had just put tomuch of myself into these relationships and not got anything back. I had about a 6-9 month periode Of misery where all i did was Work and sleep, i never saw anyone and never had more than superficial conversations with people. I did loose a ridiculous amount of weight though, went from a UK 16-18 down to a UK 12, silverlining i guess

Yes it was terrible, I remember begging him to stay with me. Cringe! Times a great healer.

Yes.....so many self indulgent poems written and nights spent listening to sad music and chain smoking.
I will say that the love I have for my husband is way bigger than the love I had for that guy, so it could have been a lot worse. Good growing experience, honestly. Grateful for all my life lessons.

@Silva: <-- What she said, just replace chain smoking with wine drinking.
