I want to make a flannel holiday crib sheet for my LOs. I have decent knowledge of my sewing machine...it can't be that hard, right?

It shouldn't be. Having a serger would make things even easier, but you can do it without one. Check out this tutorial: http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-crib-and-toddler-bed-sheets.html

My mom made a couple for me also. She just looked online for instructions.

my mom sewed them for both LOs. she is a better sewer than me but said it was easy. she changed this somehow to use less elastic but that isn't a necessary modification.

I totally did! Easy. But I chose to ignore the dimensions provided and the one sheet was a bit tight...

Easiest project ever. Go for it! And i didn't measure at all, just made some marks on the fabric with the mattress on top of it, lol.

I just made some sheets for our Moses basket. That was a little complicated because it's rounded. I did it by tracing the mattress. I like how it turned out. I think I will try to make some fill size crib sheets too. Cute ones are so pricey.

@avivoca: do you have a serger you'd recommend? I've been wanting one for awhile

I made LOs sheets, it was so easy, probs one of the easiest things I've ever sewed. I just used a zigzag stitch to enclose the raw edges inside the corners, or you could use a French seam if you don't have a serger.

@blackbird: I don't have a serger. I want one but they terrify me. I'm thinking about asking for one for our anniversary this year because I love the way serged seams look and I want to try to make my own underwear.

@avivoca: nice! Yeah I hate all the extra seams and rough edges on the clothes I make her!

Cool...I need to go to the fabric store! Thanks!

@autumnlove: I totally made one today! It takes forever to thread the elastic!

@blackbird: We made ones that only have elastic on the corners and it works great! Just FYI.

@blackbird: That's awesome! (I've had my eye out for a serger too. What I would really love is a machine that can serge and coverstitch, but they are super pricy. Check craigslist, because sergers seem to be one of those things that people buy, can't figure out how to thread, then try to sell within 6 months...)
I'm inspired to make sheets that have deeper pockets than the ones we already have. The store bought ones are such a PITA to put on.

@Mrs. Blue: I saw a tutorial for that after I finished and thought it would make more sense, heh. I'll have to try that next time. @Espion: oh good idea! They definitely look like freaky intimidating torture machines...

@Espion: YES!!! I am forever having to pull our sheets down because they don't fit the mattress.
You guys are encouraging me to make a flannel sheet for H. I have a long list of holiday sewing... Maybe I can squeeze one out for her stocking.
