I haven't.
It's something I definitely want to see before I die though!

Yes! I lived in way upstate NY, 30 minutes south of the Canadian border and we saw them often in the winter! It was so amazing and beautiful. I loved looking at the stars and the northern lights together... Until my nostrils started freezing together, lol.

Yes! Our last big trip before baby was to Alaska this winter! We went up to Fairbanks and did a night time 'tour' where they brought you up to the top of a hill and you just sat and waiting for them-- thankfully they showed up because it would have been a lot of effort to miss it!! Very cool and worth the trip to see them (we did other things there too, but that was the one big bucket list thing I wanted).

Yep! I lived in Alaska for several years . . . they are particularly beautiful on piercingly cold nights.

Yes! In northern washington, during a big solar storm. It was the middle of the night, on the last night of a church camp. We all went out side to see it, and it was truly one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I missed them when I was in Seattle (post call) and I missed them when we were in Glacier last month (putting babies to bed).
It's like they don't exist in my world

@MsLipGloss: Really? I just moved to Anchorage from ATL!
ETA: I haven't seen them...yet! @chopsuey119: you've got a place to stay when you decide to fulfill that bucket list!

I see them frequently in the summers here in Minnesota. We caught them occasionally in Iowa, too, but MN by the lake is my absolute favorite.

@Espion: Yep! I graduated high school and started college there. I lived in Eagle River.

I'm so jealous of those of you who have!! I really want to see them someday!! It's on my bucket list!

Never. I'd have to travel a long way north of Sweden for me to see them.

@MsLipGloss: We drove through Eagle River yesterday! Random question that has nothing to do with the Northern lights, don't mind me: am I going to perish in the winter if I have to drive up and down the hillside at all hours of the night/day? (i.e. with my job, if i have to go in, I *have* to go in.) Everyone says, "Oh you'll be fine" but I feel like it's like asking a San Franciscan about an earthquake...

Lol - you'll do great (I am assuming you mean the area of Anchorage commonly referred to as *hillside*)! It just adds travel time. As long as you take your time and remember that *four wheel drive* doesn't mean *four wheel stop* you'll be good to go! Before you know it, you'll find yourself wondering how the folks in the *lower 48* manage to have so many *dry pavement* accidents!

Yes, one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Wish I'd had a camera with me.

Yes, we see them often in the winter. It's breathtaking when you get to see them on a night that they're really 'dancing'!

No and I'm so sad about it! I even went to Norway in winter one year to try and see them (no luck) and then went to Iceland the following winter, sure I would see them then, but again, no luck. I think I'm just destined not to see them, boo.

Nope, but I have never really looked for it. I should since I live in Seattle.

My dad has seen them in Alaska. I'm dying to see them.
@Ree723: I am slightly obsessed with Iceland (even though the country likes to accept America's rejected citizens). Have you seen this video:

Yep, I saw them for the first time when we moved there, and I've seen them during a solar storm here in Oregon a few years back. So pretty.
@Espion: @MsLipGloss: I lived in Anchorage for a year (we didn't make it much longer than that) when I was in high school (Dimond), I was so thankful to move before I got my license. Hillside scared the bejeezus out of me

Nope! I would love to though! Maybe one day when we go on an Alaskan cruise...

@MsLipGloss: Ha! Awesome, thanks! Now if we can find a shack we can afford....!
@StbHisMrs: It scares me too! Those roads are steep *and* twisty. An uncool combination with ice and dark, heh.

Another "no, but it's on my bucket list!" here I sooooo want to see them!

Yes all the time. I live in Northern Canada. I have even seen them red before.

DH and I were *just* talking about this! It's definitely on my bucket list. We are planning a trip up to Alaska next year hopefully. Looks like there are several of you ill be asking for advice on where to go and what to see!

Oh yes, all the time, when I lived in the country. It would be fun to go far up north and see the ones the stretch across the whole sky and last for hours though.
