If I order something without sour cream or without mayo and they put it on anyway, I always send it back. I can't eat that grossness!

I have a few times, the worst was at a high end restaurant and my brother-in-law was interning for their sister company, I really didn't want to make a scene but they literally served me raw chicken, it had been seared and then was supposed to be baked but they skipped that part... His boss's boss came over and the chef came out, it became a big deal despite me trying to downplay it.

A few times, when something is really wrong (like a well-done steak instead of the rare or med-rare I ordered), when they bring me the wrong thing altogether, or when something is the wrong temperature (I've received cold soup that should have been hot, for example).

I hardly ever send it back though for not being good or not being cooked properly.

Not anymore. I used to send things back that didn't taste good or the order was wrong, but I stopped after too many people told me they don't trust the kitchen staff. Now I take a looong time to order. I ask what's the most popular dish, what the server likes, we discuss how its prepared, and we play the game if-you-like-this-then-you-will-like-that. Now people wait to hear because I get so much insight into what's good.

If the food isn't edible I am certainly not paying for it. That hasn't happened to me often though.
If they got my order wrong, depending on what it is, I will also send it back.
It's never been a problem. I've never been afraid they'd do something to my food or something, it's not like I am mean about it. I worked as a waitress before and if I gave someone the wrong thing I didn't take it personally or get angry unless they were a jerk about it.

Yes. I hate onions and if my food comes with onions it gets sent right back.

DH always gets the worst service whenever we go out and has to send food back fairly often. They get his order wrong or send out undercooked and cold food. It's a running joke whenever we go out with any of our friends now.

Usually on meat. Why doesn't the chef understand medium well? I don't want medium!

Yes. I hate hate hate doing it but if they put ham or bacon in my food I won't eat it.
