I went to Souplantation last night and sat near a family who brought Tupperware to sneak food as they ate their meal. It was very entertaining to watch them dump full cups of soup into their containers!
I am guilty of sneaking an occasional cookie or muffin but I have never used Tupperware!

I have definitely snuck cookies and brownies. I've also walked out with a soft-serve ice cream cone, but the cone itself says "take-out" so I assume it's ok!

@mrs. wagon: I was watching the whole scheme go down...it was a family of 4 and they came prepared. One was in charge of chicken noodle soup, one was in charge of baked stuff, one was in charge of clam chowder! I couldn't see what the Dad was smuggling...maybe salad? Lol!

I would have never thought to bring Tupperware. A cookie maybe, but that would be it. I always make sure I get my ice cream before we leave!!

Guilty. We went to a sushi buffet and I brought home quite a bit of sashimi.... *hangs head in shame*

true story: at our wedding a member of DH's extended family had taken dollar store tupperware and stuck homemade clear stickers that said, '10.01.11 Mr. & Mrs. Bird Forever. Congratulations! Love, the XYZ Family' we had no idea they were making them, let alone making 150+ for all of our guests! we were having photos taken and i saw them start to unload them from their van, i freaked out. my dad took care of it & i think most of the guests had no idea these large, 9x13, tupperware things were put in another room. we had warned the caterer that they liked to take food and that no one was to serve themselves at the buffet to try to prevent them from doing this, i was afraid they'd take all the food before the rest of the guests had eaten! we even opened bottles of wine just so they couldn't start taking whole bottles out to their cars (they've done that when invited to my parent's house for events).
i've left golden corral with a ice cream cone, but i think most ppl do that. usually when i leave a buffet i've eaten enough where i don't wanna look at food for a good long while after!

@mrs. bird: At Asian weddings, our receptions are generally 8-10 courses and it's almost customary for the guests to take home whatever leftover food there is on their table. I hate it because it looks so tacky, but it's impossible to stop 300+ people from packing to gos in the restaurant provided to-go containers.

I'm guilty of taking a cookie (or 2...) in a napkin, but that's about the extent of it. If I'm at a buffet, usually I'm so full by the end, that the thought of having MORE food kind of grosses me out.
There's always room for cookies though...

@mrs. bird: oh my gosh, that's dedication!! wow!
I'm shocked to see how much work/thought people put into this. Sometimes I feel like we don't eat nearly enough for what we paid for the buffet, but I couldn't imagine bringing my own tupperware to take home enormous amounts of food. I'd be afraid of getting caught!

@Alivoo01: i'm cool with leftovers, but at events, i've watched DH's family pack up food before it's even been served & then there isn't any left to serve! they will take unopened cases of soda, bottles of wine, whole loaves of bread! if it's not nailed down, they'd take it! we had a barn wedding where there wasn't a kitchen that could just make more food, what was there was it, when it was gone there was no more. we even had an extra 10 meals made just in case this happened (at $65/pp for just the food, that's a lot!)

haha uh no on the Tupperware... We usually just wrap something small up in a napkin. Last night, I wrapped up a blueberry muffin for DH since he was working late.

My grandpa always makes sure to get a slice of ham or something similar to take to his dogs. He has 2 little dogs and feels bad if he doesn't bring them leftovers.

@autumnlove: yeah! those are the best there! We usually go as a family and it felt so weird he couldn't make it, so I HAD to get him one! I was all paranoid about it though, lol. Still can't believe that family with the Tupperware...

I studied abroad in London one semester of college, and I was on a TIGHT budget. Like, I usually just ate one meal (plus the breakfast that was provided at the B&B). We only had one fridge for 17 students, so buying groceries was tricky. Anyway, all that to say that sometimes we would go to Pizza Hut for lunch buffet, take ziploc bags, and stow the next day's lunch in our purses. Whoops?
