The question about calling 911 vs going to the ER got me wondering this.
Have you ever taken your LO to the ER?

We had to take DD to the ER at 22 days old when she had a fever of 100.4 at 10pm and the pediatrician said we had to scoot on over asap. DD ended up in pediatric isolation for 3 days while they waited for all the test results to come back and was put on antibiotics during the time. Results came back as non-bacterial so antibiotics were for naught.

Twice - once when we were at my parent's house over a holiday because of high fever that wouldn't come down (wanted to check for ear infection), and this past Sunday night with a high fever that wouldn't come down with a really fast heart rate and fast breathing - on top of her cold/cough.

Just once when she was in the FP booster strapped to a chair and managed to push back off the table and tip the chair back, crashing to the ground. We have wood floors and were not sure if LO hit the back of her head (though we thought not), but to err on the side of caution we brought her straight to the ER. We also switched to using a real highchair and not a booster seat.

Never. I had never even been to the ER before until last week!

twice.
Once was cause D bumped his head real bad on the corner of a coffee table and started throwing up later. Turns out, it was just a stomach flu that turned up at a bad time.
The second time he stuck a piece of candy up his nose.

Twice. The first time was when he was a month or two old for colic. The second time, we went for croup around Christmas at about 4 months old. Now, we know where the pediatric urgent care is, so that's our new default if it isn't an emergency.

We've been 4 or 5 times.
1. Allergic reaction to milk
2. Pneumonia
3. Oxygen levels low at pediatrician's office
4. Respiratory issues (asthma + respiratory virus)
I feel like there was another time, but I can't think of it right now.

Yes, when she was 3 days old because she was crying nonstop, literally, for over 6 hours.

Twice. Once at 10 months because he needed stitches in his tongue after hitting his chin, and once at 14 months when he hit his mouth of a shelving unit at a store.

Yep, My oldest fell off a trampoline at a birthday party and needed three staples on the back of his head.

Nope, but I am sure it will happen eventually.
@Dandelion: I bet getting the candy out was fun...

ER 1st time - at 3 days old due to Jaundice and her becoming lethargic / not peeing for 24 hours
ER 2nd time - around 7 months old she had a weird sudden breathing attack
Called 911 once - the morning after that ER visit because she wasn't getting enough air / was really struggling to breath. I called 911 vs. taking her to the ER because I was alone with her and didn't want her to be in the back seat by herself while I drove 30 minutes to the hospital. And also I was seriously concerned she might stop breathing!

Once to an er for a bad case of croup at 5 months old and one time to an urgent care because we were on a trip and he had a raging ear infection with 104 degree fever. I voted once because I wasn't sure if urgent care counted.

@travellingbee: Urgent Care might actually be what I'm thinking of for my other time. I've been to Urgent Care at least once for breathing difficulties (presumably asthma that we hadn't diagnosed yet).

@LovelyPlum: it dissolved. It was a nerd candy, and when he got scared and cried, he ran purple snot out of his nose.

We've been to After Hours Peds twice which is a nice option although it still takes a few hours to get in so they haven't been emergencies.

@Mrs Green Grass: I LOVE the after hours our pediatrician's office has. Though one of our trips to the ER was after we went to after hours and they said "Go straight to the ER."

@LovelyPlum: Yeah, she finally woke up yesterday with no fever - the ER doc said it was likely just another virus on top of the cold/cough. I was more concerned because of the high heart rate, but she seems fine! We've been sick for a month with a bad cold - and then this happened just as we were feeling better!

Once, over the summer. He spiked a fever of 105.9 and was very letharic (lying against my chest barely moving) and that was after the Tylenol and cool shower. Turned out to be a double ear infection + two year molars starting to push through. I didn't know that at the time, though, and once I saw the number I immediately took him in.

Twice. Once for severe jaundice at 3 days old, and once for a random hysterical screaming episode overnight at 5 months when he wouldn't calm down and we couldn't figure out what was wrong. Turned out to be cutting his first tooth - J is highly dramatic

Twice. Once for terrible vomiting (we called Telehealth first and they told us to go) and once with croup. We probably didn't need to go the second time, but I panicked. Both times we took a taxi.

Nope. I did call poison control once after she ate some foam, but they said it wasn't a cause for concern.

Once, he woke up wheezing in his sleep and was acting lethargic, it was so terrifying. Turns out it was croup and he was ok within a couple of days.

Funny story about the ER (you don't hear that too often!) -- my mom brought my sister when she was a little less than two for a very high fever. When they asked her what else seemed to be wrong, my mom, who was freaking out, said, "I don't know! She's just not herself!" So on the board where they wrote what was wrong with patients it said: Sister's Name -- "Not herself." Lol! My mom will still jokingly say, when someone is sick, "She is Not Herself."

Once, when her vomit had blood in it. They sent us home with a $700 bill 5 minutes later saying it was the "flu" and loan and behold we found out 2 months later she had an esophagus disease.

Three times. Two were related to a broken leg -- the first day they didn't X-ray everything and see which part was broken, so we returned the next day when he was still howling in pain. The second time was for tonsillitis, he had been sick over the weekend and was really sick on Sunday when the dr office was closed.

When she was 7 months old, she took a tumble off the couch and cried pretty hard. We put her to bed soon afterwards, thinking it was nothing, but she cried off and on throughout the night and in the morning, she refused her bottle. We called the pedi's nurse line and she recommended we take LO to the ER in case she had a head or neck injury.
She was fine. They didn't think it necessary to do any x-rays. It turns out she was just teething.

We've been to urgent care once after hours on a Friday.
