Was the bill insane?!
I just got our 2nd bill from DD's trip to the ER and omg. She wasn't sick and we saw the doctor for about 2 minutes.
Freaking bill is ridiculous.

@chopsuey: I think we had a $70 co-pay or so? He got two stitches a few months ago.
Oh no, that bill sounds painful!!

No. And I never want to have to go to the ER for anything. It is so, so expensive. It's a $150 copay just to walk in the door, I can't imagine the bill later...

No, we haven't yet but LO had a 3 day stay in the hospital and everything was covered. The bill would have been crazy on my old insurance plan!

Yep, she had a super high fever at 5 months old in the middle of the night. I can't remember the bill being outrageous at all though

With our insurance we paid $150 copay and 20% of charges. It was a bigger bill but ds had croup and it was a true emergency.

We've taken Xander a bunch! We have a $200 co-pay.
I forget how much the rest of the bill ends up being. I think our insurance covers about 80%.

Yes, a few times. $200 copay each time and then each bill came out to be $200-$300 each time in addition to the copay.

Yes, once, and I think we just paid our co-pay. We had excellent insurance at the time, but our co-pay was still $150 for the ER. Both our ped and internal medicine practices now have urgent care hours which I totally love, because we had to switch insurance and now ours isn't as good, so no doubt we'd get crazy bills for the ER.

Never LO but I had to go for the first time ever a few months ago & we just had to pay our $75 co-pay....

We took her to urgent care once, which is treated the same by our insurance. The bill was like $1500 I think? But we only had to pay our $150 copay + 10%. I think we ended up paying around 200ish.

@Mae: urgent care is the same as the ER that's insane! We have a $40 urgent care copay and it jumps to $150 for the ER

@jetsa: oh it gets worse. My husband's work (ironically he works for an insurance company-- so you'd think that they'd offer decent insurance) took away our PPO option so next year we are being forced into a high deductible HSA. Which means no copays and no insurance coverage AT ALL until we meet our 3k deductible. @!#@%%@#%#

@jetsa: YUP. worst part (IMO) is that they are trying to act like they're doing us a favor. "oh your monthly premiums are going down. YOU'RE WELCOME." GAHHHH.
(sorry for the threadjack.)

@Mae: that's the exact insurance I have next year and I work in healthcare!!! It's insane. I already have my 3000 saved for labor and delivery.

Nope! We have a $150 co-pay. We just go to after hours at the Pedi! That was part of the reason we chose the pedi office because of their weekend and after hours!

@yellowbird:
I'm really glad we had LO this year and not next year. I don't know if we'll have another but if we do we either need to save up a lot of money first or I need to get a job (that has better health coverage than my husband's coverage).

Yeah, when he had croup and I thought he couldn't breathe... Well taking him into the cold air really helped by the time we got there, and he only saw a PA, bill was absolutely ridiculous considering they didn't even do anything for him.

We've been to the ER, but our bill was $100, which was what we expected! I'm afraid to ask what your bill was!

@chopsuey: Last year LO had a 104.5 fever and was throwing up tylenol so we went to the ER. They basically gave her a Motrin dose, and waited for her fever to go down. We have great insurance, and still paid several hundred dollars out if pocket, for a single Motrin dose. I swore off the ER unless bones are broken from here on!!!
