Have you ever used spray hair color on your LO for Halloween?

For a costume for LO, I found the cutest blue wig on etsy, but she would never leave it on for longer than 1 second. So I was considering using the colored spray stuff from the party store in blue. My LO has SUPER light blonde hair, and I'm nervous that blue wouldn't come out so easy?

Anyone ever used this stuff?

My hair is very light also, and a long time ago I tried Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner from Aveda and it totally left a couple of blue streaks where my hair was the lightest. My colorist said that really light hair just grabs color. So maybe that's why I'm nervous!

we did this for BFF's twins when they were thing 1 & thing 2 for halloween one year. one of them is super blonde and it did not come out right away. maybe when washed with grown up shampoo it comes out faster, but using baby shampoo it did not

I probably wouldn't use any kind of aerosol until maybe 3 or 4 because I wouldn't want them breathing the fumes. The color will probably be fine though. It should come out in a few washes.

You could use hair chalk

Dawn dish soap gets everything out!

@mrs. bird: thanks for sharing! That's exactly what she's going to be for our LO2 pregnancy announcement- Thing 1....Thing 2 arriving early May 2015:) Do you know how they eventually got it out?

@Mrs. Lion: I would never spray it indoors or not in an open area...Really bc I don't want blue getting on anything in my house!!! So we'd for sure do it outside so I wouldn't worry about fumes or anything. She doesn't have that much hair:)

@blackbird: I've totally never heard of hair chalk...Going to google now! True on the dawn! My sister is a biologist and worked on cleanup of an oil spill in the Gulf and they used Dawn on everything that survived!

There is colored hair gel you can get at Sally's that is supposed to come out easily. I'm not sure what sort of texture it would leave.

@PrincessBaby: I personally still wouldn't feel safe using it on a child who wasn't old enough to hold their breath, even outside. But i also don't use spray sunscreen on lo for the same reason. Whatever is in those cans, I don't want in my baby's lungs. I would probably go with one of the gel color options but that might just be me being paranoid!

Okay, I am REALLY not trying to start a debate on aerosol and lung health in kids. Also not going to defend my parenting choices or decide what constitutes as paranoia. So I hope that those with experience can contribute...I appreciate it!

Chalk can be very drying/damaging to hair, especially fine hair. Sprays are messy and can stain hair and skin. I'd just buy the wig, hope for a couple good pictures and c'est la vie if she doesn't wear it all night.

I sprayed my red head's hair white when he was younger, outside with aerosol. No experience with super light hair though, I'd still try it.

ETA: My only concern is not getting blue out of her white hair.

The only experience I have with it is when I sprayed spots on my mom's white dog (I promise, I'm not comparing H to a dog). I came out right away, but his hair is coarse. I say do it, and if it's blue for a few days, no biggie.

hehe no experience, but what a great announcement idea!

if you end up not going the colouring route, maybe a hair clip with fuzzy blue yarn or something might work just to get the blue hair idea across?

I was going to suggest koolaid, but you probably would have an even harder time getting it out of her fair hair...

I used the orange spray once, and I have semi-light hair. The orange came out right away, but it left me with red hair and I'm not a red head. I had to get it professionally colored to get it out. My hair is really fine. Not sure if they've improved since then. It was about 10 years ago. Good luck!

@tysonja: Thank you! That is a great suggestion....I actually googled and saw some feathery/poofy blue hair clips, and thought that may work - maybe do some pigtails and have two of them:)

@Hoots: Okay, that struck fear in my heart. I was brushing her hair for school this morning and it's so silky and light, I probably will not chance getting blue stuck in it:) I am *mildly* jealous of my LO's hair, it's so pretty, I don't want to mess it up for her:)

I think I may just try the wig....Maybe if I go ahead and get it in, I can get her to wear it a little while playing with her stuff and get her used to it....That's what we did with her helmet, it was a no-go at first, but now she brings it to us before she gets on her toys with wheels and wants us to put it on her....

@blackbird: We're going to announce right before Halloween, so I wanted our announcement to be her dressed up like Thing 1 with the caption: Thing 2 Arriving Early May 2015.

It's over the top since I don't even know what she's going to be for Halloween, so that's a second costume to worry with, but I figure this might be my last pregnancy, so let's just blow it out. No regrets.

No experience, but I feel like I've heard/seen something about coating your child's hair in some kind of oil or conditioner first, so the hair follicles won't absorb as much of the color... You'd probably have to search The Google for more information though, since I don't seem to actually remember much

@blackbird: I'm going to do some googling today and see what I find as far as bows/puff balls/etc:) The wig is super cute, but I don't know if I feel like spending $30 on it (plus the cute Thing 1 outfit is going to be at least $40) and this is not even her Halloween costume (and I have no idea what that will be), plus I don't know that I'll be able to get her to wear it even for a photo. Soooo I'm debating that today:)

@PrincessBaby: I think that's a super cute idea! I'm planning on spraying Sadie's hair red for Halloween (with aerosol--the horror!!), and I'm a little nervous about it washing out too! Her hair is blonde, but definitely not as light at H's. I'm just going to go for it though & hope for the best.

I love the little blue puffball clippies if you think the spray might not come out! I've also seen blue colored clip in extensions at Sally and other beauty supply places. It might not feel much different than a barrette to her! That will be such a cute announcement!
