Yes! I went to NYC for a week to visit, but my friends all worked during the day, so I saw a few movies by myself. I really enjoyed it.

Yup! If I have a day off of work, I'll go to a matinee of a movie that Hubs doesn't want to see.

Oh yeah, a bunch of times! I used to travel for work and if I had extra time. It was great!

Yes, many times. During graduate school, I would take the El up to the nearest theater and watch matinees to break the monotony of paper writing.

No, but my dad goes all the time. DH went to his first movie solo last week, he wanted to see Star Wars again and I wanted to stay home with the baby.

Yup ! I would take myself "on a date" and go to the movies I would even get ice cream after

I use to go to the theater by myself. It was usually for a cheesy, girlie movie that no one wanted to see. But, it's been a few years since I've done that.

Absolutely! It's not like you're social during a movie, so I think it's the perfect solo activity!

Yep, especially since we've had DD. I actually saw one by myself last night. For movies that only one of us wants to see it's awesome because we don't have to deal with getting a babysitter, it's cheaper, and the other person doesn't have to sit through a movie they wouldn't like!

Lots of times! It isn't like you doing anything social during a movie!

@JenGirl: @Mrs.KMM: funny you say that, because I totally view this as a social activity! Lol. Maybe because I like to discuss and talk about it afterwards??
persimmon / 1196 posts
Sure! I used to do it a lot. Now, I'd generally rather wait for the DVD.
bananas / 9118 posts
Definitely, I enjoy it! These days I'd rather wait for the video to come out so I can do something else while watching. I have a hard time sitting still.

I haven't since kids, but I certainly have in the past, especially while in grad school.

Only once. DH and I couldn't find a sitter, so we each went separately. It wasn't as awkward as I thought it was going to be. I actually told DH we should do it again soon.

I actually prefer to go to the movies by myself. I get to pick the movie and time. Don't go as much now that we have LO.
nectarine / 2461 posts
Yes, I'll go see a movie that no one else cares about, or one I'm dying to see when I don't want to deal with coordinating with friends and waiting on their schedules. Most recently: Steve Jobs. DH said, "I don't need to see a whole film about how the founder of Apple was a really talented asshole." but I liked it, and it was nice to be alone.

Not so much recently, but I used to go all the time. I spent two years living in Ottawa and didn't really befriend anybody outside of work, so I spent a lot of weekend time alone - I was perfectly happy seeing movies by myself. Just a few weeks ago my husband wanted to see something that I had no interest in so he went to see it by himself - it was his first alone movie and he said it was a little weird.

Only once, at the end of a business trip when I was done working but had a few hours before my flight. And by alone, I mean I was actually the only person in the entire theater! T was weird! (Being the only one, not going to see a movie alone) b

Yes! I *love* seeing movies by myself. It's so incredibly relaxing to sit in a dark theater by myself and have no concerns other than just enjoying myself. It doesn't happen very often but perhaps that's part of what makes it so great.
pomelo / 5509 posts
Yep, just once, because DH had no interest and no one else wanted to go. It wasn't weird and I'd do it again. Maybe I will soon!
pomelo / 5866 posts
Yes, but I have rules! Only weekday afternoons and only if I really want to go right away. That said, I've only gone a handful of times. I always feel slightly self-conscious, even though I'm a big movie buff. The first time I ever went alone I was a young kid....can't believe my family dropped me off to see it. I'm dating myself...it was Ghostbusters!

Yes, at least once. Maybe more but I can't remember. But definitely saw Knocked Up alone on a work trip.
kiwi / 595 posts
Often! My film interests don't always overlap with DH, so he stays with the kiddo, and I go see a movie!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
Yep - it's one of my favorite things to do if I have the day off and childcare. I went and saw Star Wars yesterday and am planning to see Sisters tomorrow.
