I've had one.

No! Not yet anyway. : / I am paranoid about my teeth, but I haven't been to the dentist in such a long time!

nope, i hope don't ever need one! ahhhh, that would be so friggin scray!

yup. it wasn't that bad. the pain from the nerve dying that led to the emergency root canal was excruciating though. ranks up there with labor.

Yes, when I was 12, and I recently had to have the tooth pulled because it was so weak from the root canal! And it was a front tooth

Yes, I had one. I fell and as a result had a dead tooth, I had to get root canal because of it. It really bothers me and I hate pictures of me where I smile because I see the dead tooth.

Yep, two because of an injury to my mouth :(. They're both doing fine, and it wasn't a painful experience at all!

@hilsy85: yikes! did you get an implant?
Sometimes I wanna yank this tooth out because it's so annoying. I researched implants and they look like a pain to have done.
squash / 13764 posts
@littlek: ugh I had this issue as well...I'm almost glad I had to have it pulled because at least now I'll be able to get the color matched better (or get veneers).

@chopsuey119: yup I'm in the process of getting it (I go back on Monday to have the implant connected to the post that they put in in April--complicated process!). It is a pain only in that there are multiple steps, and they have to be done over a period of time. So my first appt was in April, and the whole process won't be over til early/mid August. But the actual procedures haven't been bad at all so far. And I HAD to get it pulled--it was wiggling around! Sooo awful.

@chopsuey119: I have had two! One was an emergency due to an injury, front tooth, never bothered me (except cosmetically). The other one was more recent and I got a crown too and it bothers me every day!

I've had one. It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, but still not fun. Unfortunately the crown recently broke and now I need a new one

@littlek: me too! I have a dead front tooth! Wah!
@hilsy85 so sorry you're going through that!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@hilsy85: dang. glad the process is almost over for you! I have nightmares about wiggling teeth!!
@cmomma17: I still need to get a crown for mine. Been dragging my heels!
squash / 13764 posts
@cmomma17: thanks!@chopsuey119: me too! Seriously, I have such issues around teeth after my root canal and all the issues that it's caused!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@hilsy85: It stinks! I wish I could get a veneer but they said they can't do it. I hate that the tooth isn't white.
@cmomma17: It makes me sooo self conscious!
squash / 13764 posts
@littlek: ugh why can't they do it? Can they do internal bleaching? I had that done before my wedding and it really helped!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@hilsy85: They tried bleaching the tooth 3 times and it didn't work. SOOO annoying. I'm going to try and bleach from the outside.
honeydew / 7303 posts
@chopsuey119: if it still bothers you, id get it checked out. It shouldn't bother you after the root csnal. There may be more infection left or something else going on. I definitely wouldn't put a crown on until it doesnt bother you anymore.
honeydew / 7303 posts
@littlek: I wonder why they can't do a veneer? Sometimes veneers are so thin they might not mask the color. Is a full crown an option? That should cover any color!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@yellowbird: thanks! will definitely let my dentist know it hurts me still!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@yellowbird: I asked and they said they couldn't do veneer. I didn't ask about a crown. I'm going to dentist next week so I'll mention it.

@littlek: I did so much bleaching inside and out and it's still grey!

You're not going to like this answer, but I've had more than one root canal on the same tooth....probably about 8-10 years between them. My molars came in with really terrible enamel on them and have always caused me issues. Definitely follow up with your dentist if you still have pain.
@Kemma - Oh no! I was in a similar boat but managed to wait until just after I had delivered. I was still breastfeeding though and paranoid about painkillers in my milk, so they did it with very minimal amounts of lidocaine only. Not fun!!

I had one in my 2nd trimester. The tooth had been very sensitive to heat/cold for a long, long time - rinsing my mouth with water was painful. It was a great experience. I got the root canal, then a temporary crown, and then the actual crown. It was a long process, but not unpleasant (thanks This American Life podcasts!) The best part is the pain is totally gone!!

I had one but I was knocked out. I highly recommend that! I have an extreme fear of dentists, and pretty much any doctor that is doing something invasive. They gave me pills to take the night before, to calm me down and help me sleep, and help the other medicine work better. I took some more pills an hour before the procedure, and the last thing I remember was sitting in the waiting room saying "I don't think these pills are working!!" Then I woke up in bed and it was all over! All in all, pretty amazing. I think I got some sort of gas too, during the procedure.

I had one - it was a front lower tooth. It's kind of gray but not too bad at this point. The blockage thing they had to get at was in the middle of my tooth - they say it's pretty unusual.

Nope...not yet! My younger sister has awful teeth though and has had one. I'm a little afraid to see what the dentist will have to say after my pregnancy is over!

Nope, not yet. I've had 6 teeth pulled though (apparently my mouth was too small for all my teeth).

Yes, and it had to be done twice. I went in on a thursday and when the pain didnt subside over the weekend they had me come back in on monday. here they had missed part of the "root" once they took that out it was fine and they put a temporary crown/cap on. Somehow i went more than 10 years with the temporary and only last year did i get the crown done it was my very back molar on the top.
