I googled and seems like the answer is yes, but they send you a voucher in the mail later or something?!

they should give you store credit for what the item is priced at currently.

I just dealt with this... if you don't have a receipt they give you the sale price as well as mail you store credit in 2 to 3 weeks. I was 39 weeks pregnant at the time when they told me this and I potentially got a little ragey.

Yeah, sometimes they will just give you the store credit, sometimes they mail it. It's annoying.

@LBee: potentially, hehe
Ugh, that's the part I rather not deal with, waiting 2-3 weeks. I'd be so close to giving birth I prob wouldn't even remember to use it. Blah! Why can't ppl just always always include gift receipts!

I had to do this once, but they wouldn't even let me do an even exchange without a receipt (I wanted the item but DD had grown too quickly for me to use the size I had so I was hoping to get the next size up). I had to do a return and get the store credit in the mail.

Our stores here (in Canada) give you store credit on the lowest sale price by gift card.

You get store credit on a crappy *paper* merchandise credit. It's as if they are stuck in 1992.

@PurplePeony: That is so lame! Like, come on! It's the same item!
I might go tonight and will report back what happens. Maybe the store associate will have compassion on this super pregnant woman and give me a break...

Our store always gave me paper store credit receipt. Annoying, but at least I didn't have to wait.

it depends on the item - so if it's something that's currently in the store, they will offer you the current price as a gift card on the spot. If the item is no longer carried but is carried online, they will send you a voucher in the mail.

@aegie: that wasn't my experience (see above). Maybe it depends on the store?

@PurplePeony: was it being carried in the store? And did you have the tags on? If so, they should have taken the item and offered you whatever it was being sold for. If you explain it was a gift, generally they're pretty good about it.
It's a hassle when they are no longer carrying the item .. then they have to search their database for the item and sometimes .. it's not even worth it for what they tell you is their current price. I once got a jacket as a gift but I didn't have the gift receipt anymore and I was super lazy so it took me a month to go return it. They told me they no longer had it in stock (probably a clearance item at the time of purchase) so they looked it up and told me they would do a voucher but the value was $2 and some change. SOOOOO not worth the hassle. I ended up giving the shirt away to a friend who has a daughter that's a few months younger so it fit her just fine.

@aegie: Oh that's so annoying...$2!
I am pretty sure it's a current item since I see it on the website. It's just that LO will be born soon in Dec and I already have a lot of short sleeved bodysuits; I at least want to exchange for bigger size for later, or just another item entirely.

@aegie: it was the first favorites long-sleeve onesie 3-pack, they always have those in stock. I had to return the small ones, buy the larger size, and I got a paper merchandise credit in the mail a few weeks later.

So I finally went to return the gift I got and I got the "we can only mail you a store credit" and I def don't have it in the mail yet; I think it's been s week!
