I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it's happened! My mom more than my dad...
Have you seen your parents cry?

I've seen my dad cry a few times: when his divorce from my mother was finalized, when his best friend from the Army finally succumbed to breast cancer, when he had to fire another best friend of 20+ years, and when his dad died. Also the only times I've seen him drunk.
I've only seen my mom cry once, when she held my son soon after he was born last year. She'd been in the room with me and cut the umbilical cord.
My stepmom is a big crier. She cries at the drop of a hat.

My dad's a big softie on the inside and I've seen him cry a bunch of times since college. My mom....I dont think I've ever seen her cry.

@lamariniere:
I have. My mom cries all the time though. My dad only cried when my grandma (his MIL) passed though. Oh and when my LO's were born!

Yes, several times for both parents. The one that sticks with me the most is when my mom underwent surgery for breast cancer and my dad and I were at her side right after surgery, before she woke up. He was holding her hand, sobbing and begging her to wake up. It was the first time I saw my parents as "people" and not as "my parents".

My mom's a crybaby. She cries at movies, tv shows, sad stories, at the airport,etc... My stepdad a couple times. I've never seen my in laws cry but that's because we haven't seen them very much.

My dad cried at our wedding. Other than that, i've never seen him cry. My mom is not a crier at all.

Yeah, my mom a bunch of times.
During our Father/Daughter dance at my wedding, my dad bawled all over me! I don't really remember seeing him cry other than that, but I'm sure it happened once or twice before.

My mom is a big crier. I've seen my dad cry three times...(1) when I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 20, (2) walking me down the aisle and making a toast at our wedding, and (3) when he found my brother unconscious and barely breathing in the upstairs bathroom from a drug overdose.

Yes. My parents were always very sensitive. I've seen them both cry happy and sad tears over the years.

I don't think I've ever seen my dad cry.
My mom cries all the time, lol - happy, sad, anything

Yes, I saw my mom cry a few times. Scary! She usually contains her emotions very well.
pear / 1812 posts
Yep. My parents made a point to not try to hide emotions (as long as it was appropriate). My dad is actually more emotional than my mom.

I've never seen my dad cry actually, and I think I've seen my mom cry once, it was when her and my dad were going through a really rough time in their marriage and she just broke down.

I've seen my dad cry...mostly over a death, like his dad or my mom's parents. I also saw him cry over my friend's death (he was 14) and when I lost S.
My mom cries if you look at her sideways.

I don't recall ever seeing my dad cry. My mom, yes! She's a crier.

Both my parents cried for a very brief period of time at our wedding (and tried to disguise it with coughing). I'm sure I'll see my mom cry soon and it's going to break my heart.

I don't think I've ever seen my dad cry. I've seen my mom cry many times. Happy tears, sad tears, she cried at M's birth when DH told her the name.

I've never seen my dad cry but I know he has. His sister passing shook the whole family.
I've seen my mom cry. Usually at funerals.

Yes, when my parents got divorced, when my first step father died, when my aunt died and my grandad died.

I've seen my dad cry a couple of times but it's always jarring. It definitely happened when his mom passed, and when my mom's dad passed (they were close)!
My mom cries at funerals, and she also cried a lot when I miscarried my first pregnancy. Pretty sure she cried at my wedding too. She is pretty emotional.

Both. Tons. Weddings, movies, funerals, photos, poetry. We are a big, sappy, sentimental family, except my sister, when she's crying it a BIG deal.
ETA: "it a big deal" ....me talk pretty one day.

Not growing up, but now my mom cries everytime she has to leave after visiting my LO:(
I can't remember ever seeing my Dad cry.

Once, when my sister was killed in a car accident in middle school

I have seen my mom cry multiple times. I have never really seen my dad cry. I saw him start to tear up (but then he left the room) when my sister was on a respirator, and we had just been told she would need to be airlifted to another hospital.

I've seen both of my parents cry happy and sad tears. We're like @oliviaoblivia's family.... we're criers. Movies, funerals, weddings, celebrations, a good card.
clementine / 899 posts
Yes, I've seen them shed some tears growing up (I made my Mum cry a few times...). First time I can remember seeing my Dad cry was when his best friend died suddenly in a car accident. That hit both of my parents very hard, but I never saw my Dad break down like that. He was VERY close to happy tears walking me down the aisle as well.
grapefruit / 4442 posts
yes. I've seen my mom cry a couple of times but the first time I saw my dad cry was when my mom passed away. It was so heart breaking and I'm fighting back tears just thinking about it.

@mynoahbear: My mom is like yours...she'll even cry over commercials sometimes, it's a bit pathetic, haha!
I've only ever seen my dad cry once, and that was when we had to put our 15 year old dog to sleep, and we were all absolutely heartbroken and crying. He's doesn't do happy tears (neither do I), and is more likely to get angry (like when someone assaulted me as a child) or go into fix-it mode (like when my mom got into a bad car accident) than to cry. However, I've never seen my DH cry, which I think is super weird.

I've seen my dad cry once, at my 8 year old cousin's funeral, it was hard on everyone since it was sudden and a freak accident. My mom I've seen cry several times, she's sensitive like me!
