Wow. I wondered what that term meant. I am a very hands off person - I like people to be self-sufficient - and this is how our whole family is. I think if I had a parent like this, I would have serious issues with it.

It is absolutely a thing. It's a problem. My DH recruits college seniors for his company, and you would be shocked at how involved parents are. They will call and try to negotiate with DH about salary, location, etc. He's always like, "Uhh, I can't talk to you about this..." and they get angry. Their parents also go pick out where they are going to live in their new city, buy them furniture, everything! It's ridiculous.

My parents can be bad.... but holy moly I'm glad they're not THAT bad! And it gives me hope that there are people who smother their babies more then I ever will.
