Le sigh. I spent a good portion of tonight crying over failed babywearing. File this under "things I NEVER thought I'd say."
DD has never been big on babywearing. I have had to do it sometimes when she's awake, it's dark, and I have to walk our dogs (our backyard isn't well lit enough to take them out there at night.) I used the Boba, and while I didn't feel super secure about it, it was only for 5-10 minutes.
Every other time I attempt to wear her in the Boba or Ergo, it starts off ok (I never feel like she's really SECURE) and then she melts down eventually.
LO is going to be 4 months old on the 15th. She's very tall for her age.
I'm flying to NJ for a last minute trip on Friday, just me and LO. I realize I pretty much have to wear her through security- or else how will I fold my stroller??? So I've been trying babywearing since I booked my flight a week or so ago to try to get LO used to it. Such a fail.
I'll post pictures in a comment (they're on my phone) but here are my issues with each:
ERGO: I prefer this carrier because I like the structure of it. However, due to my small waist and large hips, the waist band seems to ride up and not want to stay in place. She is way too big for the newborn insert, but too small to frog legs. I tried putting a A&A blanket balled up under her and she didn't like that. She only wants to let her legs hang down under the strap- I can't get her to move them (see picture below.) She seems to want to turn around to look at people- which is another issue, not sure I'm ok with front-facing carriers due to ergonomics, and I don't have the time or money to buy another carrier before our trip. I hate how not secure she feels- like she might slide right out the bottom. I know that's unlikely but it's just really uncomfortably "off."
BOBA- This is a little better now, since I can wear her with her legs out. However, I am SO over this carrier. I have the hardest time getting it to fit right. I have to put it on SO TIGHT and still, the strap that goes across (the part that says BOBA) is way too loose no matter what. Meanwhile, it always rides up in the back, pulls up my shirt, and gives me lumps upon lumps of muffin top and fat rolls. Not to mention- that's not comfortable. Both carriers make me SUPER SWEATY but this one is worse. Her legs were so much better in this but I didn't feel like she was secure enough on top AT ALL. Much worse on top than in the ergo. If the straps were where they felt most secure, she would chew on them. If I pulled them down a bit, she felt REALLY not secure. I would basically have to keep a hand on her the whole time in the Boba due to worries of her tipping out if I leaned at all.
The babywearing group in Orlando doesn't meet a lot and won't meet before my trip. I really don't know what to do. Unless I'm missing something and I can SOMEHOW feel comfortable with the Ergo, I'll have to just pick the Moby because it's easier t pack. I would love to take the Ergo if it would work better.
This is a point where I wish I had mom friends here who could come over and just SHOW ME.
Thanks for reading. This is half vent, half cry for help. Any advice is very much appreciated. (Pictures to be posted below shortly!)
