@plantains: Aww she is adorable! My LO is also 10 weeks old. I put her awake drowsy and if necessary I let her cry. Usually it doesn't last long and isn't sobs, more like fussing. I or my DH will go in after 10 minutes if she is really crying though. We hold her until she gets drowsy then put her down again. She is usually good after that. The only time I run into issues is if she takes a nap too late, then she just needs to be kept up a bit later.

This is so long- suffice it to say I recommend letting her cry a bit if you can stand it. It will get better! Good luck!

My LO is 13 weeks old and while she is a good sleeper at night, she was refusing naps right around the 10 week mark. So, I started to put her down drowsy and let her cry it out (a little) if necessary. You will be able to tell if she's really distressed or just resisting sleep. At this point it's 50/50 as to whether she will cry when put down or just nod off to sleep. We're also reading/trying to follow "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" for what it's worth. I don't agree with EVERYTHING in the book, but for the most part having a fairly rigid schedule has worked well for us.

@cheesetomywhine: Initially we were really only getting like, 30 minute naps. But since following the book, some things have helped.
1) I'm getting much better at reading her sleepy cues and trying to catch them immediately rather than letting her go from slightly sleepy to overtired/reluctant to sleep.

2) Often LO will sleep for like, 45 minutes, and then she will cry. I used to rush in and comfort her but now I wait 3-5 minutes. It almost always subsides and she goes on to sleep for an additional 45 minutes or longer.

Supposedly the morning nap is the first/easiest one to establish and that has been true in my case. LO usually wakes around 6:30 and then goes down for a nap between 8:00 and 8:30. She will sleep 2-3 hours then! All this week it's been happening. The first time I was shocked but now I just expect it. As far as the rest of the day goes, it's nowhere near as consistent despite my efforts. And I never get a long stretch like that morning one - usually more like 45 minutes - an hour.

@plantains: It's not bad! I think the hardest thing for me personally, is accepting that while having a schedule comes with many rewards - most importantly, a well-rested, happy baby - it also requires a lot of sacrifice. I can no longer just go out whenever I'd like and assume that LO will get the sleep she needs in the stroller or the Ergo or the car seat. But, so far I have to say it's been worth it to have a bit more predictability.

@meredithNYC: Aahhh I see. Maybe I will get that book. I've been reading her cues and putting her down when she yawns...maybe I'm waiting too long? Or doing the nap ritual takes too long and therefore she becomes overtired? Her first nap of the day is the best but it is only about an hour. I don't think I rush in to comfort her mid-nap but I'll pay attention tomorrow to see if I am. If so, I will wait a bit to see if she can fall back asleep. Also she seems to get tired really quick in the morning...I've been trying to keep her awake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I agree that it limits when I can do things. I only go places when it is time for her to nap and if I'm out when she needs to eat I need to be somewhere that I can feed her then keep her up for her whole awake time.

@plantains: Aww poor thing! My gal has been pooping all the time lately....I think she may be able to drop the night feed but she keeps going #2! Sometimes if my LO gets up at 2 she'll wake again before her 7am wake-up...no me gusta.
