Have you tried putting vinegar through your rinse cycle? It's a natural deouderiser!

I would probably strip them. I used Dawn and hot washes.

Sounds like ammonia build up. Wash, wash, and more wash. I've boiled my inserts as well when this happens and it helps.

BG recommends bleach. Dawn and vinegar method stripping can do more harm than good.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Much to my husbands dismay I used a regular old stock pot. It had boiling water in it and I boiled another pot of clean water afterwards plus washed it well. He suggested using the turkey fryer pot next time.

@autumnlove: I don't think it will damage the diapers. There's more of a risk of damage to your machine

I actually boiled my inserts yesterday for the first time in 9 months. It was amazing how much grime came off of them! I'm scared about the Dawn/vinegar ideas because I've heard it could make it worse with hard water?

@T.H.O.U.: @pelikila: @Lindsay05: did you boil more than once? and do you have to dump out the water and re=boil using new water? and do you wait until the water is boiling to add the inserts?

@HabesBabe: and @LittleGBee: I usually take a large stock pot and boil about 4-6 inserts at a time for about 10 minutes. You don't want too many inserts per batch (inserts only, no PUL) because the intent is to really rinse the water through the microfiber. I've never needed to do more than one good boiling session. I usually follow that with about two rinse n' spins in the washer afterward. For the pockets when I strip I do a bath of hot hot hot water about 1/3 full plus a 1/4 cup bleach and 2 Tbsp. blue Dawn and dump them all in for about 10 minutes (swirl them around so they get all wet). Then I take a medium bristle scrub brush and scrub one drop of Dawn into each pocket. I swish the diaper around again and put each scrubbed diaper in a 5-gal bucket (mostly to keep the scrubbed diapers from the unscrubbed diapers. Once I've scrubbed them all I drain the tub and refill with hot water and dump them all back in for a good rinse. Then they all go into the washer for 2 rinse n' spin sessions and usually I'm good to go. I've never had an issue with the PUL and the 1/4 cup of bleach or the inserts and snaps and boiling but that doesn't mean there isn't someone out there somewhere that has had an issue.
