Okay ladies (and gents), I need some help! I'm supposed to dress Xander as a pirate for Friday and I have noooooooo idea how I'm supposed to do that! He's 4 months. I don't have time to go shopping and buy any supplies. What would you do?

I would google baby dressed as pirate and get inspiration. I would make a patch firstly and then tie a scarf on his head. You also draw skull and bones on a white onesie

Do you have a striped shirt?
Pencil eyeliner?
Felt + string?
I'd throw him in a white (or striped) shirt, black pants and black or red socks. Tie a bandanna or scarf around his head and draw him a beard/mustache on with eyeliner. If you're feeling crafty you could DIY a little eyepatch for him
this looks easy enough :

White onesie, black leggings and maybe a red scarf/bandana/fabric scrap tied around his waist as a sash? And, of course, an eyeliner mustache.

hahaha, love the eyeliner mustache idea!!! I never would have thought of that!
Gahh, I don't think I have a red scarf or bandana that I can use to make a sash or tie on his head. That would be AWESOME. Damn unpreparedness!

@Adira: do you have an old t'shirt? you could cut the sleeve off of one and then slip that over his head? (the cuff of the sleeve around his head and then the sleeve part covering the top?) you could run to wal-mart and grab one or a bandanna before friday!

@MrsTiz: Oh, interesting t-shirt idea! I'll have to look into that! And I'm not sure I'll have time to run to Walmart, but I may have to!

@Adira: love the title of this thread! Can you get some fabric paint and do a skull and crossbones on a onesie? You could likely just find a pattern on the Internet.

@delight: I actually have a onesie that has a bunch of little skulls and crossbones all over it. Do you think that would work? I also have a onesie that says "Argh! Change me booty!" I was thinking I'd put him in one of those. What do you think?
pomelo / 5326 posts
Totally!! Either of those would work too! Then just use a little eyeliner. A red or black bandana would be good...do you have any old t shirts you could rip up? If you have black pants that you are putting him in that you can afford to get rid of after, you can also cut up the bottoms into little triangles. Like what Johnny Depp would have in Pirates of the Carribean? Like shaggy bottoms if that makes sense?

@delight: Yep, I know exactly what you mean about the pants! I'll have to check - I'm not actually sure I even have black pants for him.

My first thought was chop his leg off and poke his eye out. Maybe I'm not cut out to be a mother!!!
If you have a stripy top or onesie, you could pop him in that. Then, if you have a black, brown or dark blue top he has grown out of or you don't mind cutting up you could cut it into a shaggy waistcoat for him to go over the top.

So fun! I don't have any original ideas..... I think these ladies already gave you good ones. If you don't have black pants, what about denim? I think if you don't want to ruin the pants it would be fine not to cut them..... but it would be super cute if you did.

@artbee: So I checked last night and I don't have black OR demin pants for Xander! WTF - Mom fail.
I think I'm going to try to run to Walmart tonight before I pick up Xander from daycare and get him some black pants (if I can find any) and a bandana for his head. Hopefully it'll fit... he has a big head.

I just read this title and got so excited! I hope you share pics! I love babies and animals dressed up, lol

@boiledpnut: @Dandelion: Oh gosh, now I feel like I need to do a good job of it if I have to show you all what I did!

@Adira: What about red pants? I feel like pirate colors are always black, white, and red.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@artbee: Hmm... I didn't look for red, so I'm not sure. I don't think I have any though, haha. His wardrobe is full of blue and brown!

@Adira: What's this party for? Is it super important? If it isn't I think it would be fine to put him in blue or brown...... call me cheap and lazy but you already have a cute pirate onesie and I feel like that's enough.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@artbee: haha, honestly, I'm not sure what it's for! The daycare teacher just asked that I dress him as a pirate for Friday! I'm definitely not going to spend a lot of money on this or anything, though I might try to find a bandana tonight to tie onto his head and that with the onesie will probably have to be good enough!

@Adira: my LO is not in daycare so excuse the dumb question, but is it normal for them to ask you to dress your child as a pirate on short notice? I'm totally intrigued/confused by this thread.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@Adira: Lol, I'm sure the onesie and bandana will be cute! And I think they're only $1.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cmomma17: hahaha, I have no idea if this is normal or not. They gave me about a week's notice when I was supposed to dress him in blue for their 4th of July parade. And I think they told me on Monday to dress him as a pirate for Friday. I wish they had told me last week though - I could've done some shopping over the weekend.
@artbee: Thanks! Yeah, onesie and bandana will have to be good enough I think. I'm assuming other parents don't just have pirate costumes lying around, so hopefully he doesn't look terrible compared to the other babies.
